Hi
I have a 65 litre tank, about 3 months old.

I have a L81 Gold nugget who is the star of the show. However i noticed that last week his skill start getting white patched on it.

He is still eating, pellets and he loves cucumber.

The water is ph 6.7 and i took a sample at the weekend to the shop, and it passed all the water quality checks.

Any ideas on what i should do to treat him and get him back to his former glory?

it could of scraped its self, a couple of times while iv been cleaning the tank mine goes on a rampage, bangs its self and ends up with a white patch, it looks as though all the colour has gone in the patch, not a growth or anything. Is this what yours looks like?
I never treated mine on either occasion and recovered within a few days!

Thanks but not sure its that. Looks like its spreading. He tends to hide away when i clean. He the star of the tank so I need him at his best!

could dose the tank with melafix just to be safe though?

But to be honest a 65 liter tank for a gold nugget is really small they are a 8-11 inch fish when fully grown - do you have any plans for an upgrade? What else is he housed with? Anything that could have attacked him?

Hi

Yes will upgrade in the future to something at least double the size.

Having chatted to a few people its a parasite infection and should be treated as such. I was lucky to speak to a guy who was a bit of a gold nugget expert (he has caught them in the amazon and brought them back!) and basically my local trop fish shop had sold me down the river! told me to add salt, major no no. Treat with bacteria medicine, quote him "i might as well P*** in the tank for all that will do!"

I am gently bringing the ph back up from 6.5 to 7, he will like that, the other fish should be ok as well. That will also help against the parasite.

I have put some medicine in the tank

All communtiy fish, black phatoms etc so nothing overly aggressive. He is the big boy on the block anyway so should be able to look after himself.

Just a note, i have learned, remove all wood from the tank when treating, it sucks up the medicine and ruins the effect. Hopefully my gold nugget will pull through! I'll keep you posted!

you would probably just stress the fish out more removing bogwood, once bogwood has been fully soaked and in the tank some time it doesn't soak up masses of water or medicine for that matter.
the only thing you should remove is carbon from filters as that may soak it.
from what you described it doesn't sound anything like a parasitic disease. can you not get a picture up of it?
