In my opinion ich is at it`s most sinister when you have a light infection because it can be missed or overlooked, there may only be a couple of spots or the parasite can be lodged in the gills unnoticed. Each mature cyst can produce up to 2000 new parasites and each parasite can produce a new cyst in a matter of days. Raised temperature may work but if it doesn`t you could be left with a temperature resistant strain that will require medication to eradicate anyways, so I would go for the best remedy first as last

That`s just my opinion of course

Here are two good articles that will tell you everything you need to know about ich.

Note "some chemical" is a pretty risky way to be responsible for your fish. Also, expiration dates on liquid medications are pretty important, so check this out as well.
