Hi,
For the last couple of weeks I've been having a real problem with white spot. A couple of weeks ago I started using Protozin
http/www.waterlife.co.uk/waterlife/protozin.htm
As I was about to put in the 4th dose on the 6th day I noticed that one of my Guppies was literally covered in whitespot, now this stuff is supposed to clear it out after 3 days, the 6th day is supposed to be a "just incase dose" do make sure it is totally clear. Anyway the tank was far from clear so I started another round of treatment, yesterday would of been the 6th day, however I even though I couldn't see any white spot in the tank I got the feeling it was still there, plattie looking a bit rough and some lumps (not white spot) on my gouramie (sp?) so I went back to the fish shop and explained the crack to the owner, he tested my water and everything fine with that (phosphates a bit high, but he said that was ok).
He recommended using King British WS3 White Spot Terminator
http/www.sinclair-sahc.com/fish/fishdefault.asp
Bottom product I think, same company just not got the WS3 on it ? (active ingredients in the one I've got are : Malachite Green, Acriflavine, Quinine Sulphate).
Anyway I got up this morning did another "head count" (getting to be a bit of a habbit) and noticed that one of my gouramies (not the one with the lumps, to be honest they look more like zits) has whitespot all over its back.
The bloke in the shop said to leave the tank at least a week before using the WS3 to let the protozin bio-degrade. That would mean leaving the tank untreated for another 4 days, but from what I've seen of this whitespot I doubt some of the fish will last that long.
Has anybody got any suggestions of what to do ?
Oh, and I upped the water temperature from 24C to 26C as the woman in the shop said that it may help.
And to boot, I got some fish from a different place than I usually do as my mate had a £15 credit note with them that he said he didn't want. Anyway they sold me 4 gouramies, two silver (both male I think) and two Dwarf (both female) at the time the shop assistant said that they'd all live in harmony. When I told the young girl who works in my regular place she said I was a fool for going there, there are stories of peoples tanks being filled with whitespot after shopping there (I'm pointing no fingers) and that my gouramies will proably start fighting, which it looks like they have, one of my male silver gouramies is giving the other one some right aggro.
What should I do, this is causing me a lot of stress.
Thanks
Steve.
Oh, the tanks a Juwel Vision 260, live plants, with guppies, platties, black widdows and the gouramies.
