hiyaa x :good:

introduced my tank to three new honey gouramis (definatly 1 male to 2 females.) so now my stocking level is:

. 5 neon tetras
. 3 honey gouramis
. 1 otto

so nine fish in a 48ltr aqaurium (10 gal)

last night they seemed very nervous and didnt come out, which is understandable as i did mess about with the decor after about an hour or so after them in the water (after leaving them in their bags floating on top of the water for 45mins)

however i noticed that they have got little white dots on their heads, i cant relate it to white spot as its too big, and is just on the head, the male and 1 female only have one dot on the side of ther head but the other female has two on either side, they are small but they dont appear to be cotton wooly like a fungus, and my water sats are perfect, i have added king british safe water which removes the harmful ammonia and nitrate, then added some fungus and whitespot med for the gouramis as i can only refer it to be a fungus.

we didnt see any white spots when they were in the tank at the store and all the fish were healthy.

gouramis have just been fed (along with the other fish) and their appitite is fine and the only strange thiong is that they swim off to the bottom coner of the back of the tank whenever i come near it.

i dont think it could be bacteria desease that gouramis are usually prone to as i can only recall those symptoms being:

. fin rot
. tail rot
. mouth rot
. gill rot
. ulcers

any help would be much help thanks x

i cant till sunday night to monday night, as im away for the weekend.

however unless they start showing there faces i doubt ill get any good shots either :/

any suggestions at all?

ill post in some pics as soon as i can get some x

thanks x

I'm not one for diagnosing fish diseases so I really can't help :(

I just figured people would be more inclind to post if there were pics for reference.

ok, well in the mean time, ill try and look on google images to see if i can get some that look simular to the gouramis to help.

thanks x

Looks like columnaris to me.
Any redness to the patch.
Columnaris can present its self on the head region.

What are your water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

right, well no, no redness at all from what i can see, just a little white dot on the head thats a bit bigger than whitspot but alot smaller than the angel fishes that i posted in.

ph: 7.5
n's : 0
amonia: 0

Any signs of flicking and rubbing, excess mucas, greyish patches, darting, erratic swimming, laboured breathing or gasping.

hmm well they hide everytime i come near to the tank, and i got them thursday. is their any tips to make them feel more comfident in the tank? iv seen them come forward when im out of eyeshot but cnt get a pretty good luck at them as yet. iv treated them with some med that helps treat:

. white spot
. fungus
. velvet
. costiasis
. trichodiniasis
. neon tetra disease

iv been using that, but have done a 20% water change.

they do seem to be swimming and behaving fine, when they arnt at the back. but i think its mainly because i just introduced them and then had to move some sand around and bogwood and plants ect about 15minutes after i let them loose into the tank, but still i left them in the bag soaking in the tank for over an hour, and i left the lights of for another 2 hours after that, so i didnt think it would be a problem.

they didnt appear ill or shy at the pet store, but they was on one of the top tanks so maybe with my tank being quiet low to the floor they feel a little vunrable.
hmmm...

anyway they do still make me giggle as as im typing this i glance round and they dart back round to the back of the tank, all i did was turn my head!

please tell me whats going on!? xx

iv looked into it and i think i have the solution, im not sure if its the same as what wilder sugested but i think it may be columnar, which is refered to as mouth rot, however it is erosion of the mouth area, which i cannot see at the moment as they hide away, and white or grey small marks on the head, body or fins and gills. that looks simular to fungus.

problem is now, iv been back to the shop today where i usually get my fish and stuff from, and im going on holiday next friday, and i doubt if ill be able to go out and get some until after then, ill not be back untill 11 days later.

great :/

yeh, ive been using protozin waterlife, ok ill try that x thanks wilder.

anyone for why they are being so shy? do you think its because of the illness? they come out when im not around but whenever i come into the room i see them zoom of to the back :/ ?
