All of our Cardinal tetras and our remaining Emperor tetra have white spot, which was noticed this evening. I have been reading up on what to do to treat it, and it is recommended by most on this forum to raise the water temp and add aquarium salt, or raise the temp and add white spot med as directed on bottle etc. We are unable to do anything until tomorrow, but I was just wondering if either of these treatments will adversely affect any of the other fish in the tank - 1 Gold Ram Cichlid, 2 Red Honey Gourami, 2 WCMM.

Also should I raise the temp tonight, even though I cannot add anything to the tank til tomorrow, will that help at all?

Thanks for any help :)

And I have just found this in a post by nmonks:

"Most primary freshwater fish are intolerant of salt , while many secondary freshwater fish and virtually all peripheral freshwater fish tolerate salt well.

Primary freshwater fish families (evolved in fresh water):

* All barbs, minnows, and carps
* All tetras and characins
* Gouramis and bettas"

So does this mean I won't be able to treat white spot with salt?

The temperature should be raised only when the treatment starts, it will speed up the life cycle of the parasite so that the med works faster.
The other fish in the tank could have white spot on their gills but are resisting it better for now. So treating the whole tank is necessary, the dormant white spot will be in the gravel, filter plants etc.
I haven’t used or researched about salt so I don’t know anything about how effective it is. I have always used the waterlife product and its been effective.
Good luck
