I've had my tank for just over about 2 weeks now, and I've put 3 different lots of fish in there so far. My original fish were 2 mollies that I've had for around a week and a half, and they seemed to be fine after we added these other fish.
However, yesterday, I saw that my 2 mollies have some white spots on their fins and some on their skin. I think that my white mollie is at a more progressive stage of the disease, however it is difficult to tell- but she has lots of raised bumps around her mouth, and also some white spots on her fins. The white one is constantly breathing at the top for air and they both generally seem lathargic. They are both still eating too. My guppy is also nibbling the side of the mollies- is this going to affect her or just a caring thing that the guppy is doing for her?
I tried to diagnose it on the internet, and I thought it was whitespot so I have added a dose of King British Disease Clear, however, I am now not so sure if that it actually is white spot. Can anyone please tell me if it is definitely white spot, or if it is something else? Thanks!

Sounds like white spot/ich/ick whatever you want to call it, or it could be another type of fungal growth (as theirs millions of fungal/white spot diseases) but you will have to post pictures so we can be certain that its a kind of disease.

I've updated the problem with some pictures now!

Your tanks overstocked.
Can you post water stats please.

Any signs of flicking and rubbing.
The bumps on the mouth any redness to them.
Do the bumps look hard, or soft like filled with fluid.
The spots on the fins do they look like a cluster of eggs, or a cauliflower.
Any whiteness of the mouth area, or bleached out mouth area, or swelling, or cotton wool on the mouth.

Thanks. My water stats are:
pH- 8.0
ammonia- 0.25
nitrite- 0
nitrate- 5
My tank is still getting established, so I'm sorting the pH out. She doesn't appear to be flicking or rubbing. The bumps look more like patches on her tail, but were more like cauliflower around her mouth.

If it is White Spot I recommend you up the temperature in your tank to around 29-30 degrees as it cannot live at those temperatures.
Furthermore, you may need to increase aeration.
James.

You need to sort your stocking out as fish will be stressed and cause desease.

I would treat for columnaris.
Myxazin by waterlife and pimafix.

Keep doing water changes and increase aeration.
When you preform a water change just add the correct amount of med back to the water removed.

I have some King British Disease Clear that I have been using for 8 days now since the day I noticed the spots. You are meant to add it again every 3 days while the spots are still there which I have been doing- so I have done 3 treatments so far. By the 4th day it had appeared to have gone from both of my mollies, however, a couple of days later it had come back again on my white mollie, even though the treatment was still ongoing. It seems to be progressing and more spots are appearing- so I keep treating it, but it isn't going away. However, today I have noticed 1 of my halequin tetras has it too. I can't understand why it has reappeared- is it worth buying another treatment to use once the 3 days are up on the King British one- or is this cycle normal?

How long should I keep it at that temperature for? Also, will it not harm the fish- because I thought they could generally only live in temperatures of up to 28 degrees? Thanks

What do you mean by the 'stocking of the fish'? Also, what is columnaris? Thanks

Mollies get that all the time, you dont even need meds to cure it, you NEED to do a simple water change, 50% and it will go within 2 days.

You need to keep on top of your water changes and sort your stock out (meaning get rid of some fish)

How many spots have appeared. Do they look like grains of salt.

Columnaris is a bacterial infection. Caused by bad water quality, over crowding, stress, unstable temp, dirty tanks.

Sometimes the med not strong enough to get rid of the bacterial infection.

I'm going to go to my LFS tomorrow for some more advice too.

Thanks. Do I still continue to treat the water with the King British Disease Clear after I've done the water change?

Thank you. There are 2 of 3 larger spots on my mollies' 'side fins' (i don't know the name of them), and 1 of 2 smaller ones on her tail. There are about 3 small spots on the top fin on my harlequin tetra. These are all pretty flat, and I wouldn't say they look like salt. Initially they did around her mouth, but this has cleared up now.

Just want to make sure the spots don't resemble a cluster of berries, or eggs.

Any signs of flicking and rubbing.
Any redness to the spots.

Not that I can see. I've treated her with some eSHa Anti-Whitespot treatment now, so fingers crossed- it'll go!
Thanks

Thanks for the update.
let me know how you get on if you don't mind.
Good Luck.

I know this was ages ago, but she survived the whitespot...
unfortunately however I woke up a few days ago to find her lying on the bottom of the tank dead :( i really don't know what it was that killed her, but she never really seemed to be the same since she had whitespot :/ she swam around wierdly and came to the top for air a lot. Thanks for your help though, and hopefully I will know how to treat it properly if I get whitespot in my tank again!
