Feeding my fish tonight I noticed one of my Female guppies has a white hunch on her, its on her back and down one side just behind her gills.
It seems like she cant bend that part of her back, but shes not hiding, or staying in the calm spots. Shes eating, and if anything more then the others.

I have looked an looked and cant see any abnormal signs on any of the others, paramiters are all great, water is a bit browned from the bog wood, but I understand thats normal when adding bog wood.

I really feel like she might die, and I dont want that.
Any help would be great.

I don't quite no what you mean it sounds like saddleback columnaris if she has white along the back coming down the sides to form a saddle appearance and if she has a bent spine i would issolate her immediately.

Just did a search and yes thats exactly what it seems like :(
One of the other females passed away last night, but not the one that showed the problems.

The causes seem to be poor filtration, poor airation, poor nutrition.
I have a good filter that bubbles into the water for airation, and feed them 2 different types of food a day.

I did the water quality tests today again and this is what I got.
Amonia-0 ppm, Nitrite-0 ppm, nitrate-12 ppm, and PH-7.3

Same as last night.

I dont have another tank, and I read that this is highly infectious, and seems to effect only the females.

It doesnt make sence to me that she would get this though, thats what really confuses me.

I read that salt can treat this, so I will pick some up and give it a try. I hope it doesnt kill any of the good bacteria or anything.

:(
It sounds like I am going to lose all my female guppies

I still dont understand how it could have happened, I would hope my tank would be low stress, certainly not over crowded, and levels are all good.

The LFS said the guppys (well and couple others) only have a 12 day quarantine after being recieved to be sold unlike everything else having a 20 day. Could that have been it? I did get them the first day the quarantine was lifted. Would that be enough stess to do it?

Could my GF's Cat trying to get them through the glass cause stress? The cat can only reach the bottom 2" or so of the glass, and cant make it ontop or anything.

Yes stress and tempreture can cause it, plus guppies are quite prone to columnaris, whats your location.

You need tetracycline which can wipe out the bacterial colony out in the filter, or maracyn one and two for columnaris.

Will Maracyn kill the bactera in my filter too?
I would hate to fix this only to have all the fish die from a new cycle.

You need maracyn one and two med, i don't think so it might knock it abit, but shouldn't destroy the bacteria colony completely.

Maracyn
Manufacturer: Mardel
A broad-spectrum antibiotic for gram-positive bacterial infections. For infections of columnaris (body fungus), fin and tail rot, popeye, gill disease, and secondary infections.
Active ingredient: Erythromycin.

Maracyn–Two
Manufacturer: Mardel
A broad-spectrum antibiotic for internal or external gram negative bacterial infections which can even be absorbed through the skin. Effective treatment of fin and tail rot, popeye, gill disease, dropsy (swollen body, protruding scales), septicemia (bleeding or red streaks on the body), secondary and internal infections. Effective even when fish won't eat.
Active ingredient: Mincycline hydrochlor.

Thanks, I will pick this up on my way home from work. I just hope its not to late to save the one female that has almost a white band around her from it. She is still very active and eats, so here hoping.

Turn temp down, and if you have no scaless fish add a tablespoon of salt to 5 gals gradually, good luck.

My LSF didnt have the meds in, something about not being in the orders even though they have ordered it a few times.

Is there a chance this will just kinda go away on its own?

Thats highly doubtful. Look and see if they have tetracycline. That is another good antibiotic, howevery, you will need to watch your water stats because this can harm your bio filter.

They had that, should I get it and just be carefull?
if it looks like its gone and I add other fish will they get sick too?
