Hello all,

I have had my tank set up for about a month. I have a 5 gallon eclipse corner aquarium. I have 1 betta and 2 adf's. I have noticed that I have some white fuzz growing on my decorations. I cant see anything on the silk plants. Just on the decorations. I have an ammonia spike I am hoping is the tank cycling. I had just the Betta for 2 weeks and now the adf's the past 2 weeks. I change 20% of the water once a week. The Adf's seem to eat this fuzz. The betta ignores it. Is the fuzz the good stuff I need to fight the ammonia or is this bad fuzz and I need to remove everything and boil it all?

I run a tight ship when it comes to feeding. I feed him 3-4 Gold pellets in the morning and he gobbles them up. Then I feed him 3-4 Gold pellets 3 times a week at night and 3-5 frozen blood worms 3 nights a week. I drop about 4 blood worms in front of the two adf's every other day. Fridays is fast day nobody eats. I do my best to make sure no food is left to rot.

The tank temp stays 78 - 82 degrees.

What should I do?

Your fuzz is possibly a type of algae. Do you leave the tank light on for long periods or is there sunlight that could be causing it?

There is some sunlight going through a thick currtin. That does give it a little light durring the day. The tank light is only on for a couple hours then when it gets to be night time I turn it off because he see's himself and goes nuts.

I cant really help, sorry! But i've been having a similar problem with my fry tank. There's white fuzzy stuff appearing on the plants and bottom of the tank and its really annoying. Im assuming it doesn't harm the fish though.. I had an apple snail and he did a good job of clearing it up, but the male betta has killed him -_-

My tank has a light on 24/7 at the moment though which could be the problem. Dont know what to suggest with yours, other than a snail if your betta wont kill it! :D

I hate to do it. But I do need some advice. Google search for "White Fuzz in aquarium" turned up nadda.

My guess is algae, though honestly, I don't know of a type of algae that's white. Here's a site with a list of types of algae -- does it sound like any of those?
Algae use nitrite, so in a tank that is in the process of cycling it is very common. Once a tank is fully cycled there should be only small amounts of nitrite and thus not nearly as much algae growth. One option would be to get some live plants; they tend to out-compete the algae for resources.

Of it's not algae, then I'm clueless. What are your ornaments made of?

I had white fuzz appear on my tank glass after being gone for a week leaving my husband to take care of the fish ... he left the lights on all night several times *pokes him with a stick 'til he installs timers*
I tossed my otos over there for a day or two and they took care of it so I'm guessing it was algae. Maybe its just the beginning stages of algae and it doesnt have much color to it yet.

Does the "fuzz" wiggle of its own accord or does it appear to be inanimate?
