Hi. Yesterday, I bought a Whisper/Tetra brand air pump for my 20 gallon, and it says on the box that it's supposed to be very quiet. Well, it's not. It's loud, and heats up to get pretty hot. I covered it up with towels to make it quieter, but it doesn't make much of a difference. People on the forums said that it wasn't a good brand, and that the rubber feet wear down eventually. They also said that Eheim and Rena were better brands, but they aren't in any Canadian petstores.

I actually don't mind the noise of this pump, it's kinda' soothing, but how long will it last me, considering the rubber feet wear down? I don't really want to keep buying new air pumps all the time...

I love the bubbles, though! It works so effectively in that sense! Check it out! (You can't really hear it in the video, because my camera doesn't pick up sound very well.)

P.S. How come the bubbles on the surface of the water never pop?

Do you add anything to the tank other than dechlor?

I had this same problem when I had high nitrite, also when I added a med.

Umm yes, sometimes. I add cycle, and once a month, waste control, to clean the decor and plants in my tank. I also just treated with a med, but the med's gone now, though the fish are still sick, and the bubbles still aren't popping. (That WAS what you mean't, right?) I don't think I have any nitrites and ammonias, last time I tested. (Which was... two weeks ago...? But, I know for SURE it's the same, and plus, I'll be testing again soon.)
Thanks for all the help so far!

I would stop using cycle, as it really does nothing.

What are you feeding you fish as well?

Also, is your tank in your kitchen or near anything that the tank could get any kind of air born chemical on the surface of the water?

Does your water touch or come very close to the cover? The bubbles might just be getting trapped underneath it.

Ummm.... ok.
I feed my fish nutrafin max flakes, once a day, and veggie flakes from time to time. Sometimes I'll give them an algae disc or something.

My tank is in my room, and I don't use anything in there. (No hairspray, perfume, smoke, etc.)

The cover is not touching the water.

By the way, the bubbles are starting to pop now, so I think it's ok. There are still a bit of bubbles un-popped, but they are popping much faster now.

Thanks for all the help so far! :good:
