Hi, I've currently got a group of danios in my 29g tank and was looking to adding some fish to accompany them.

Which of the two, between Rasboras and White Clouds would you think is more suitable for the ever active danios?

Personally, I like the look of the Rasboras more, but I'm not sure if the fast and constant movements of the danios will give them stress? Rasboras are also not as hardy as White Clouds....though I like them both! :)

Whichever one I end up getting, would a group of 5 be enough for them to feel safe and shoal?

I added 3 corys today and at first they barely moved, but are now swimming around at the bottom (substrate) looking for food! Whenever the danios get near them, the corys will chase them away! Is this normal? It looks so funny! :)

Thanks in advance.

which danios do you have? (64 recognised species)
which rasboras are you thinking of getting? (43 recognised species 55 if included are microrasbora, boraras, psudorasbora & Trigonostigma)

Hi The-Wolf, sorry for the ambiguous post! I've got leopard danios (didn't know there were 64 recognised species!) and I'm planning to get Harlequin Rasboras.

For the Rasboras, is there much different from species to species? From what I've read, they seem to be fair similar, both in appearance and behaviour.

In my 45 gallon, the danios leave all the other fish alone for the most part, and the same is true for the harlequin rasboras. These guys actually are pretty stationary for the most part, so if you wanted them to shoal with the danios or provide activity, I don't think they will.

I believe the minnows are a lot closer to danios in their behavior, so it might be best to go with them if that is what you are looking for.

yes there is a lot of difference between species.

ok now to your question
both will make great tank mates for LDs, personally I think that the harliquins will compliment
the LDs better than WCMMs, unless you get gold WCMMs.

What types of danios do you have plus other fish in your tank at current? Many danio and corys species prefer the cooler tropical/sub tropical temps- i think white clouds would make good tanks mates because of this as they also prefer the cooler tropical temps   . I have white clouds in my mian tank with my danios and they get along great- they are both very active fish and i think their colors compliment each other well :) .

???? Where did you get 64 species from? According to fishbase there are 9 true danios and 35 devarios. (plus Danios meghalayensis sp hikari sp TW02 and sp TW03 which do not "officially" exist at present)

Hi Tokis-Phoenix, I've got leopard danios and have added more zebras to go with them to form a large danio family! :)

The only other fish are plattys. The temp is at 26oC so hopefully that'll be okay for them.

Are white clouds as active as danios? They don't seem to be active as danios when I see them at the LFS, also they are considering smaller. How big do white clouds grow to?

Yes i only thought there was 9 types of danio's I am so lost haha. Oh well. More the better lol.. Well White cloudds are tuff fish, and rasboras i can't say i haven't had one..but the white clouds i had were tuff and lived a long life..

maybe I, like the OP, should've been more precise
and said danionin.

I also agree with the Harlequin Rasbora. I have a school of 10 and they are very active, especially when the lights are off. They seem to be very strong. The only thing I have noticed is that they will eat anything they see, just like danios, to the point that they look like they are about to bust. So you have to watch how much they eat. Very nice fish.
