Hey everyone :)

Got my tank setup and got my concolor corys in today (From CoryRusUK) will post pics fo them tommorow. The tank is 22 UK gallons and i'm going with:

6 Concolor Corys
6-8 ????? Tetra
Pair of rams

Just trying to figure out which type of tetra i want. The tank has a black substrate and background so the fish colors stand out. I want a shoal of tetras that stay close together but are also interesting.

I was leaning towards some cardinal tetras but they seem a little boring as they stay in one spot alot of the time.

Any suggestions and how many should i get? Won't be adding them for a month or so yet...

Cheers
Dan

Congo and glowlight tetras are beautiful. Glowlight tetras are less demanding than congo's though. Both should be kept in groups, and the 6 - 8 that you're planning on having is fully ok. Another tetra which will stand out nicely against your darker substrate is the lemon tetra. A very active fish, with a beautiful yellowish, golden colour and a red eye!

I have some silver tip tetra, and rummy nose and they both look great against the black backing , but the rummy do stay together mor and are more active.

Thanks for the replies guys

I will check out the rummy nose and glowlights down the LFS this week i think, never been to keen on the silver tips TBH

I used to have a shoal of 7 lemon tetras and they are very nice fish. However, i was doing a water change in the old rekord 60 and they got spooked and jumped out while the lid was off, found 6 and they survived but the 7th went MIA. The problem with this tank is it has a luminaire for lighting so it is open top, a bit worried the lemons might jump again... :good:

Thanks again
Dan

I like black neons, quite chunky fish and are active swimming on their own and also in a nice shoal but not sure how they would look with your dark substrate and dark background, it is their natural habitat though so should be good.

I have 3 red eye's and 3 black phantoms. I love the phantoms, they are very peaceful and are pretty!I'd like to increase to 6 of each and maybe 6 red phantoms. :D

ahh.. but they are nice though.. You know you want to! When they get a bit bigger and their colours are really deep with the right light, i think they look great with plants and a black background...

Hi Sf05! Congrats on your new Cories by the way! :) I have Diamond Tetras, and they are very lovely fish. I also have black gravel, and I really like how they sparkle against the dark substrate. You also definitely would not have to worry about them sitting still, because they are very active. However, to be honest, mine don't really stick together. They shoal together very loosely. I did see the Black Neon Tetras in my lfs this weekend (and they had dark gravel). They were very beautiful, and they were definitely sticking together. You might check out the Black Neons like noodles suggested.

I do like the black tetra but like you say i'm not too sure how they would look against a black background... :S

I do like the red phatoms as well as the black, i was looking at the red phantoms on google and think they would look pretty good, i will have a good look at them down the LFS

 They are definitely one of the best coloured tetras maybe even best coloured trops and i haven't ruled them out completley but i just wanted something that would be a little interesting as the corys like to sit on the bottom rolling their eyes at everything   and rams from my experience don't move too much unless their having a domestic

I'll check the black neons and definitley along with the diamond tetras. If they are active compared to the other i might for them.

How many does everyone think i should have 6,7 or 8 it's 22 UK Gallons.

Thanks for the replies so far got some tetras in mind for when i pop down the LFS on thursday... :good:

Can't beat black phantoms, if you're looking for interesting behaviour; I just love the way the males display to the females.
