Hello everybody. I am within the next couple of months going to be getting another large fish tank. I have 2 choices so far:

Tank 1:
130 x 24 x 25 Tall (340 gallon)

or

Tank 2:
96 x 36 x 25 Tall (375 gallon)

Whatever tank I choose the filtration will be a 100 gallon long (72 x 18 x 17 Tall)sump tank.

Pros for tank 1 are:
-it is almost 11 feet long
-Being only 24" in width,it will be able to go all a long one wall in the bedroom without cutting to much into the small room

Cons for tank 1:
-I really want to keep stingrays but because of the small width I will only be able to keep smaller rays
-the store that I am ordering the tank from delivers all of their tanks to "shows" where everybody can pickup their tanks up without having to pay shipping cost, I will have to pick it up at the show and drive the tank home, which will be inconvieneint because of it almost being 11 feet long.

Pros for tank 2 are:
-Is has an extra foot in width for stingrays
-it will be easier to pick up at the show and drive home
-it will be easier and cheaper to have a stand made
-it is 35 gallons larger than tank 1

Cons for tank 2:
-I will have to move furniture in the living room to get the tank to fit because of its larger width
-it wont appear as big as tank 1, although it is bigger

I am planning on making which ever tank I choose a freshwater stingray and shark tank. Please vote in the poll and explain why you choose what you choose. Thank you.

if you want rays the wider the better. also for sharks it really won't make that much of a difference if the tank is that big already

Thanks guys. By freshwater sharks I meant like bala sharks, ID sharks, paroon sharks, black sharks, etc.Gobymaster, I sent you a message with the site that I am ordering from on it. I'm not sure if it went through, though.

i would go with tank two. there is more pros than cons so there you go. and who cares if u need to move furniture

Well the furniture that would have to be moved would be a sectional couch and a 5 foot HEAVY hitachi tv so it would be hard. I honestly want tank 1 more, but I understand that it isn't best for my situation.

I voted for the 375 gal. If your going for stingrays that's the best. If your going to go with the 340 gal your going to regret not having enough room. It wouldn't look very big? With a couple of huge fish ya, I think it will look big!!

You'v been bitten by the fish bug..nothing can stop you now! Muhahaha...
ehem... I don't think that is much of an issue, you can handle it.

I voted for the 375. It opens up alot more options with what fish can be kept :good:

Oh, and think about trying to trasport an 11ft tank...or moving a tele and sofa? ;)

tank 2.

1 ft of width > 2-3ft lenth when u alrdy have 8 ft.

for rays 3 ft is pretty good.
when u say sharks, i presume fw sharks which in most cases needs 500-750 gallons

Edit: Where are you ordering it from?

Ok thank you all for answering. I understand that wider is always better for stingrays, but surely I can keep some of the smaller species in tank 1 such as scobinas? At first, since I am new to this site, I was unsure if I was allowed to post the website that I am ordering this tank from-but since that has been all cleared up this tank will be ordered from glasscages.com . A lot of you seem concerned about the sharks, I just want to say that the tank mates will not be limited to just sharks and rays at all, I am just positive that I want both sharks and rays, so please suggest tank mates that you think will be cool for this tank. Anyway here are the sharks that I was looking at for this tank:

bala sharks

ID shark

paroon shark

black shark

rainbow shark

hi fin banded shark

Other fish:

silver arowna

banded leporinus

clown loach

flagtail

Heyy there!

I'd go for #2 for sure if you are getting stingrays. Sharks will be alright if it is a foot shorter, but stingrays will really appreciate the extra width. Omgosh that is such big tank I can't wait to hear about it when it is filled with fisheys!

good luck!

I would avoid the black shark, I've heard they are just really nasty fish as they get older. See here, The-Wolf had a very bad experience with one. See here. It would especially take issue with a rainbow shark. Though in a tank as big as either of those two, you could go for a red tailed black shark, a rainbow shark and an albino rainbow shark with no problems :good: .

I would also avoid the paroon shark Pangasius sanitswongi, I really don't see either one of those tanks is suitable for a potentially 3 meter long fish........ .

Similar situation with the ID shark Pangassius hypopthalmus except they get smaller at 1.3 meters, this still means one wouldn't be able to turn round in either of those tanks.

The hi-fin banded shark Myxocyprinus asiaticus is a subtropical fish that does get massive, but you could maybe get away with if you wanted (preferably provided cooler water). Just note that it does grow massive and as it does so it changes, see this thread:).
