i've just picked up a twin 55w t5 power compact starter for my 100 gallon (4x2x2) fw community (severums, uaru, barbs, loaches, plecs etc). I havent planted it yet but wasnt gonna go overboard with too many plants due to my severums taste for green things. Does it make any odds which tubes i go for ie daylight or beauty tubes?

I knew they get really hot, but wasn't aware of these problems. I don't actually have one (Just fitted one for someone). I'll let them know! Cheers.

cheers for the link, i did read those posts a while back. the starter that i got was only working on one output when i got it funnily enough, as the wiring had broken down inside the cap, i'm guessing through geting too hot. The tubes that i got are unfortunatly the older shorter ones by the look of it - what i might do is trim the rubber back a bit as i have some high temp silicone type sealant that i can use to seal if needs be

update - thanks to Ste J i spoke to Interpet and a new starter is winging its way to me - there were signs of overheating behind the rubber covers on one of the leads. Luckily ive bought the new type tubes to go with them so no need to replace them.
Ive also picked up tube holders to suit the tubes from a shop-fitting lighting specialist locally, just got to finish my lid now and work out how best to mount the tubes/clips
