I find the Xentoca eiseni, red tailed goodeids, much easier than guppies Panamera. They work best in unheated tanks and only require some cover to have high survival of the fry. The fry are big enough that they do great in a tank full of adult Xenotocas. If you can imagine a newborn fry at 2 cm length and adults that are only about 6 cm long, you will start to get the picture. I just brought home some Xenoophorus captivus from an auction and they dropped fry in a 10 gallon Q tank the next day. I can hardly think of a worse place as far as cover but I now have about 8 surviving fry from that drop. I did find a 29 to put them into after doing some rearranging.

Oh yeah, I've heard of those fish! There's a video on youtube of one giving birth. The babies are huge!
Yeah, guppies are very easy to breed. Since they are the ones I started with, and I got at least a 100 babies from them who almost all survived, guppies are my favourite!

So, where do you get these exotic species?

If you want to connect with Limias or Goodeids or even the wild type mollies and swordtails like X. montezuma, monties, or X. nezahualcoyotl, nezzies, you need to join your local aquarium club. I find that every time the club has an auction thee are lots of fish that I have never seen anywhere else. Sometimes they are my favorite type, they are livebearers. My recent trip to the ALA convention even landed me some Brachyrhaphis roseni at the auction. I have never seen anything quite like them before but they looked good to me so I bid on them. There were several bags brought in by a noted livebearer person so I didn't have to bid them through the roof to get a few. If I had been willing to pay more, I could have come home with a lot more of them. Since I had never sen them before, I decided to go slow at first. It turns out they are Poeciliids just like mollies or platies or guppies so they should be easy enough for me to breed and expand on. Platys. They are just so cute! ;)

Yeah, I love them too! :good:

Thank you very much! :good:

I really like platys - they are so much more chilled compared to the mollys I have. I really like the Rainbow platy, and the Mickey Mouse :)

I like black mollies a lot but the same way I like children - I like them to be someone else's!

Myself, I'm an Endler's Livebearer girl. I like their colors more than I like guppies' and I love the males' charming antics to entice the females. I wish they'd dance like that for me! I wish anyone would dance like that for me!

Yeah, my platies really are calm little guys. They never bother any of my other fish, unlike my mollies.

Yeah, I love guppies. They were the first livebearers I started with. *sigh* SO pretty!
