I'm getting lots of algae in my 55G tank. Which is a better algae eater? Turbo grazers or money cowries? How many of each would I need?

Well it mostly depends on what kind of algae. Turbo snails eat a lot of hair algae. I'm not familiar with money cowries but I think they would probably eat diatoms.

How many of each depends on your tank... every tank is defferent. I would start out with a few then add more as you need them.
:)

I had a small problem with algae on top of the dino's I had and I added a phosphate reactor. I must say it is one of the bst things I added onto the the tank. Cleaned everything right up, crytal clear.

I got a TLF Phosban reactor. :good:

If we are talking hair algae then fish will get through it fastest; tangs are really good or dwarf angels. If you have a reef setup, the tang is the safer option as they rarely, if ever, nibble corals whereas the dwarf angels may. I found half shelled sea slugs to be really good at eating algae. Before the population explosion, in my tank, of them I had macros everywhere. Now I have none!! Turbos are good for hairy algae but rarely touch anything else but combine them with blue or red legged hermits and you have an algae eating platoon. Cowries will eat both hair and macros which is a plus but I think they grow quite big.

Regards

Is hair algae the common green algae caused by lighting in the tank?
