Which Has Tougher Leaves

hi.
i have a large amazon sword in the main tank that has leaves eaten away since i added a few of my bristlenose. I am planning to change the amazon sword once its all eaten away ( hopefully not) to a lot of java fern. Are java fern leaves tougher than amazon swords in a way that it can withstand bn's?

Strange Ive kept a few bristlenoses in my tank for years with swords with no problems.. Maybe they havent got enough greens in their diet try feeding them cucumber which should keep them away from plants..

Have a look at tropicas website they have a list of plants that keep be kept with herbivorious fish just select it on the drop down menu below the species list on the right hand side..

Are you sure its the bristlenoses eating them sword and not some sort of nutrient deficiency...What fertilisers are you using???

They are tougher, but no idea if they will withstand a BN as I've never kept any type of plec.

yeah java ferns are tougher...

my headstanders destroyed my swords in hours, the ferns hve been in there for like 6 months and are still good.

my tank is heavily planted liquid ferts and root tabs for the root feeders. The leaves were all in excellent condition for over a year. The juvenile peppermint bn that was in there initially did was not the problem as the leaves were left untouched but when i added the breeder size bn from my other tank, the leaves started to ware away. That's when i knew it was the larger common bn's feeding on the plants. I think il just go with a heavily planted java fern/anubias/java moss tank if the worst comes. Il increase their vegetable (cucumber/zucchini) intake and il see what happens.
