Hi all

I have two perc clowns and have been feeding frozen food for about 2months now a mixure of brine and mysis shrimp in garlic I'm worried that they aren't getting all they need and have heard some of the flake and pellet food out there is quite good.

Which brand would you recommend and what is best pellet or flake?

Cheers

new era wins it for me, just keep in mind that all fish are different and some may not take any flake/pellets

Yeah. I must admit that I tend to just get whatever my LFS has in stock (normally New Era). I feed a mix of frozen and flake food and I don't worry so much about changing the flake food round as what one might be missing another might have. Just make sure you dont get any that contain a load of phosphates.

Cheers guys. I've had a look and the new era stuff looks expensive but I guess if it's good then thats all that matters. There are foods out there that claim to make fish colours brighter etc is this true? Will new era do that?

The colour brighting thing in some is kind of true. these types of food tend to include hormones and things to try and induce breeding colouration of fish.

You are ideally looking for something with ammonia acid, fats and carbs along with the normal vitamins. Normally they have a phosphate % on too and you want this to be as low as possible.

Was trying to find a list of typical dietary requirements for marine fish but couldnt see one. To be honest I have never really looked to much at the contents I tend to judge the food based on how well the fish eat it and how healthy the fish are after a couple of weeks on it. Probably not the best way to do it though.

Thanks for the info. I don't want excess phosphate in my system. I don't really want to pump my fish full of hormones either, I'll prop just go with the new era stuff. It's expensive though...to be honest there's little in this hobby that's cheap!lol

New era is great stuff, but expensive  I buy the flake, the pellet stuff isn't liked by all my fish but the flake is, I have even seen my Mandy have a little nibble

New era Flake food came today. I put some in but they weren't in the least bit interested. They could see it was food, as they tasted it buy spat it right out! Little *%#+. Is it just cos they are so used to frozen? Should I not feed them again today and try it again tomorrow when they'll be more hungry? Or give it another go in a few days?

Dont give them any frozen for a while :good: they have been spoilt :p

I hear ya there! I will try again over the next few days. They are like a pair of spoilt teenagers!lol

Given flake again today but they didn't take it. Will give it another go tomorrow. Anyone know if this will stress them causing White spot etc? Or is it a case of they'll eat it when they are hungry!?!

Not all fish will take it right away. i would try them on a little frozen to make sure they get something...not much though and add some flake at the same time. Crush it to more manageable sizes/
