My betta mr squid died from dropsy so I pulled out all my fish and cleaned the old tank and going to recycle it. Also got some of that nasty hair algae growing all over my plants kiling them so going to replant too.

Anyways I have 2 cories and 2 ottos that get along very well.

The betta never killed them but probbaly scared the crap out of these poor fellows chasing them around the tank so i am looking for like maybe 3-4 small fish to go in my tank.

Now my tank is a 6 gallon and has 4 fish but these fish are pretty light on thebio load so figured i can surpass teh 1 fish per gallon rule if i go small.

They where doing fine before with the big betta in there and plus its been awhile and I blame my dead heater for the cause of the dropsy since temps got to low. If anyone is wondering what heater it was the visi therm deluce 25watt and was second one. Have a stealth coming for my next replacment so hopefully it works.

Anyways want some fish that are like an inch big, not tail nippers and will get along with what I have that are interesting to watch along with vibrant colours. 3-4 of that size or like two 1.5 inch fishes. Nothing bigger then that.

Thanks

How about extra cories (of the smaller species) and otos? Rather then putting in other types might be nicer for the fish just to boost their own numbers. Cories and otos prefer more of their own type around.
Hugs,
P.

Hi WhispTech :)

Your tank is pretty small, and if you are going to re-cycle, be very careful. The corys and otos do not do well with ammonia and nitrites in the water. The process will be dangerous for them.

I hope you saved the filter material when you cleaned the tank. It will help greatly if you did.

After it is all done, you might want to add a few neon tetras or something tiny like that, or perhaps an African Dwarf Frog. :D

I use matix biofilter medium and that never got cleaned or anything so all is good for my bacteria colony.

As for the fish they are in an other tank with meds and such for the time being until I have recycled the main tank and get it replanted and re setup. Also waiting on new heater.

So probably in a week ill put the fish back in and then put the new fish in the medical tank for a day then move them to main tank.

Doing this will help since now I have gotten rid of the hair algae along with all those pesky little snails.

I was thinking though to get more of what i have and just make it a nicely planted tank but sort of wanted to add colour to the tank. Could do it with plants but the lfs only seem to have green plants all the time.

Other issue is that cories are hard to find. Since i got those two which where the only ones i could find i have not seen anymore. Tons of ottos tho.

Thanks for your guys suggestions though.

Will those frogs eat my fish?

how big do they get?

honey gourami get about 6cm
Sparkling gourami about 3 cm

If you do a google search there is loads of information on the internet about them.
