It must be all dyed fish, they either dye or die young for some peoples wants for colourful fish. If they are that desperate get a school of Neons or Clown Loach in a tank that suits the fishes needs

I say it's a toss up between common plecos and goldfish.

When I was 10,the lady at the pet store gave me a common plec for my ten gallon goldfish tank. This poor pleco got like 10 inches long in my tiny tank. I was looking around for a pet store to take it from me,and when I got home it had flopped out of the tank, walked all the way across the room and finally died. Hell,I didn't know it would get that big!! She also told me that I could have one goldfish per gallon. If I only knew then what I know now.

I voted for bettas...

This is really sad but my sister had this betta in college and his name was "george" Well george was all good and find until one of my sis's evil friends came over and thought george would like a drink and gave him a good-size poor of vodka in this bowl.....poor george :(

I think that they are all commonly mistreated
Neons - Kepy with larger or aggressive tankmates, or kept 1 or 2 per tank not a school.
Betta - Kept in tiny bowls, water isnt cleaned, or kept with fin nippers
Oscars - Kept in tanks WAY to small for them
Common Plecos - Also kept in small tanks, ive seen them in tens and 20's
Piranha - People Just dont know how to take care of them. Meaning Food, Water Perameters, Tank Size
Feeder Goldfish - Kept in tiny bowls, sometimes without even a filter.
Arrowana - Kept in small tanks
Clowns - Kept in tiny tanks like 2.5 gallons since Finding nemo came out everyone wants one even if they know nothing about them. I was in my lfs one day and a lady was going to buy one and put it in with neon tetras.
Bala Sharks - Kept in small tanks
Puffers - Not kept in brackish water when most are brackish or salt

Another would be Angelfish - kept with fin nippers, Clown loaches - kept in small tanks, The worst one of all is the Glass Fish - They are horribly mistreated by painting them, also there are painted Black Phantom tetras, Tri-Color Sharks, Oscars, Gouramis, Convicts, Angelfish, Corys, Albino Mollies (Painted Pink + Blue), Albino Channel Cars, Ompoks, Just about every albino fish. It is horrible the way that fish are treated but unfortunatly theres not really anything that we could do about it

Can I vote for anything swimming at WalMart? Or more likely floating belly-up.

I said comets.....also with everyone with betta though.

After seeing a full grown Pacu, then seeing them as juvenilles for sale in Wal-Mart....they should probably be on the list too  :/

55 Gallon: 1 Common Plec
1 Black Ghost Knifefish
1 Half Banded Peacock Eel
1 Bristlenose
1 Royal Plec
1 Stripped Raphael Catfish
1 Black Lancer
3 Silver Sharks
5 Clown Loach
ok. maybe you should keep fish for your size of tank too.

most mistreated must be a few of them really.

goldie must be no1 but bala sharks. everyone has these :( its so sad 55 gallon tanks are too small for a group of these fish.

bettas. but not for keeping in jars.. i think putting them in a big community tank is more disturbing :(

common plecs.... people buy them coz there cheap. they cant keep the properly and have to get rid of them :(

clown loaches. awwwww they look so cute. these fish grow too big for the tanks that that people keep them in. i even saw some siggy with 6 cloaches in a 29 gallon along with balas and a tinfoil barb :(

oscars. say no more..same as all the above. :S

columbian sharks too. not many people can home these properly.. (should not even be on sale IMO)

i am completely against dyed fish myself but i would say keeping these fish in the wrong conditions is worse than keeping a dyed fish in good conditions. it all about quality of life IMO

I would say Bettas, because to Fish Store I go to keep Goldfish and Feeder Goldfish in HUGE tanks. The bettas in small, tiny ones. :-( It's really sad when you see them just laying down on the bottom.

1. Goldfish
- usually a fish that is sold as an easy fish to keep and live mostly in small tanks or even worse in a goldfish bowl!

2. Clown loach
- people don't realize that the fish is big - literally, kept in small tanks too.

3. Bala Shark
- large fish that is kept in small tanks. Unfortunately name of "shark" sells - it's cool to own a shark, but this fish has nothing to do with sharks.

4. larger plecos
- owner doesn't realize how huge some of them really are..

5. Black ghost knifefish
- only few of us have large enough tank for this fish. Not suitable in community tank.

Something important about Bala Sharks and Clown loach.
