This is my first post here but I’ve been reading and absorbing for a while now. Got my 60 litre planted aquarium set up and running. I’m still waiting for it to cycle without fish (using seachem stability) but was wondering as the first fish day gets closer which of the fish I want to add first?I eventually want it to contain small shoals of Pygmy corys, Ember tetra and harlequin rasbora. Which of these, if any, would be best to add first and why? Thank you!

60 litres gives you a choice to make. They are all social fish, and you need to keep them in small groups. I can see only 2 of the species working with that.

I'd go with embers, or Bororas, and pygmy Corys. The first add would be whichever looks healthiest at the store.

Thanks for your help Gary. I‘ll look out for the Boraras, I don’t think I’ve seen those yet.

Are you also adding ammonia? Just using bottled bacteria on their own does not cycle a tank as the bacteria need something to feed on.

The Boraras fish usually sold in the UK are B. brigittae and could well be labelled as chili rasboras. There are other species as well, and these can be mis-sold as chili raboras.

I am yeah, I’ve learnt a lot on this forum 😂

Ah ok, yes i’ve seen chilli Rasboras in my local fish shops.

I like them because they have the same basic colours as embers, but some of the same habits as harlequins. They are a different Genus, but so closely related.

Then again, with amandae (embers) and pygmy Corys, you would have a genuine South American tank. Harlequins and chilis are Asian.
