Hey, i'm looking for a filter suitable for a 264l tank, so prefrably something that is capable of 300l and is external, I have been looking around for external ones and the cheapest I have found suitable for that size tank is £125, I wouldn't mind paying for this but when i'm just a kid and paying for the brand new tank and equipment it takes it toal :) Also how do you maintain an external filter and what need maintaining, thanks :D

I always go for Eheim, IMO they are the bees knees when it comes to filters. They do cost more than other makes and if you're on a budget then lots of people like Fluval.

If money isn't much of a problem then the Eheim 2026 HERE is a great price.

If money's tight then the Fluval 305 or 405 HERE will save you a few bob.

My advice would be spensd a little more and get the Eheim, you won't regret it, but it's your choice.

Hope this helps.

I've been looking into the Eheim range, and was wondering does anyone know which would be better, a Professional 2 or a Wet/Dry?

That's bizarre - may I ask how the Fluval is better and what was wrong with the Eheim and what model it was ? If it broke within a year, surely you could have had a new free replacement ?

I'd go with Eheim every time - just feels more substantial to me.

But try and stretch it to the Prof 2028, not the 2026. The 2028 has extra throughput and an additional media tray. You can't overfilter but you certainly can under do it!

Your bound to finish up buying too many fish anyway... ;)

I didnt say it broke just said i rate the fluval over it the new fluval is extremely quiet not that my eheim was loud but its quieter than that. And i do just prefer it over my eheim maintanance is very easy aswell.

Ah I see - well perhaps there's something wrong with it ? I have two Eheim externals currently and even if I put my ear right up to them, I'll have to concentrate to actually hear them. And I struggle to see how maintenance can be any easier on them (apart from perhaps having the luxury of an auto prime) - but to be honest, it takes less than 5 seconds to manual prime.

I'm just really interested why you really think the Fluval is so much better. Are you comparing apples with apples and two similar "type" models in their functionality? If not, then I don't think you can really justly compare.

Well i'm definatly getting an Eheim now but the model is a problem for me, i'll have a look at the models, narrow down my choice and I may consider 2, i'll get a good look depending on whether or not my teacher hovers round my pc.

i would prob get a eheim and the new Aqua El Uni Max External Filter with Integrated UV Steriliser, or just the Aqua El Uni Max External Filter with Integrated UV Steriliser depending on your tank size :p

built in uv all for under £100 !! thats a deal!
