Ok so after getting my 70 litre tank for christmas i've now bought a juwel rio 125 litre tank as I want my fish to have more swimming room.

I am going to get an Ehaim ecco pro cannister filter for it and am stuck between the ecco pro 200 or 300 .for my new 125 litre tank

The ecco pro 200 has 600 l/h turnover and it says ok for between 100 - 200 litre tanks.

The ecco pro 300 has 750 l/h turnover and it says for between 160 - 300 litre tanks.

I will not be overstocking with only 8 harlequin rasbora, 5 cherry barbs and 3 sparkling gouramis and maybe in future add 4-6 small panda type corys.

Some people say to overfilter, overs say overfiltering is too much for bacteria to colonise ?

Anybody else have this tank or those filters or anybody got any advice which to get.

The 200 is cheaper to buy and run so would there be any advantage to getting the more expensive 300 at all.

The amount of bacteria in the filter will be proportional to their nutrient supply. In general over filtration is not an issue, it is more the flow that the filter genrates. That can be a problem for some species in small tanks.

I see., thnx

well just looking now the 300 is only about £8 more than the 200 anyways so the price difference is hardly anything.
The harlies and barbs like flow but the gouramis don't.
Well then I can't really see any reason not to get the bigger 300 filter then and can use a spraybar to prevent too much flow if needed.

yes i agree, i would get the biggest your money can afford :) gives you more scope for the future, spray bar is also a good idea, if placed right you could increase the length of the pray bar which will also reduce the flow but help distribute the water throughout the tank :) got any pics of your two tanks?

well I'll take a pic of my 70 litre but the 125 is empty until I swap everything over

I have two Ecco Pro 200's in my tank and I have not had any issues. One on the left has a spray bar and the other doesn't. I have floating plants and the spray bar pushed them all to the other side, so I just turned it backward and aimed it at the glass, which creates the perfect amount of surface movement, but not too much flow. The flow that comes from the standard lily type outlet is a little strong, but that can also be aimed towards the glass if you prefer.

yes i have a few frogbit floating plants as well.
I have ordered the eheim intake/outlet kits as well as they look a lot pretty and easier and have a spraybar and I have a hydor 200 w inline heater so everything should work out good.
think i'll just aim the spraybar to the glass as  well
