I wouldn't be getting 6 lol. Only a pair.
If you want an actual pair as in a breeding pair its best to start with 6 and let them for a pair but if you just want 2 either male female or 2 femles will work just try and avoid 2 males.

I'm not planning on breeding them. If they do breed it's not a problem, but it won't be intentional (not on my part anyway!) Was hoping to get a male and female pair though. Some people sell them already paired up too.

Any other suggestions?

I'm looking to get my fish next week, does anyone else have any suggestions? I'm open to any :good:

No one? :(

Bolivians seem to be the most popular choice on the poll! :)

I'm in the same boat as you trying to decide which dwarf cichlid to go for in my 5ft tank, though I have 12 tiger barbs in at moment along with some lemon & beacon tetras and small schoal of rasboras. Me too like apistos, GBR's, Bolivian rams, kribs, etc. the choice is causing me headaches!! Lol.
I'm Probly swaying to Bolivians due to been easier & more hardy than GBR's and either kribs or apistos or maybe both .... If I can?!
Keep us all posted & looking forward to your decision, oh and pics!!!

Bolivians are underrated because they are not as shiny as the others. I have had Bolivans AND Apisto cacs, and I have to say while the apistos are great...they are small little things. The bolivians I had were these nice chunky fish with personality. I love them and have some now! :good:

{I do plan on some more apistos at some point, but if you can only have one or the other then go with Bolivians}

I can definitely only have one or the other. Bolivians can be gorgeous once they mature :) not got them yet as I'm away from home for a couple of weeks. Can pop home every day to check on the tank but I'd rather wait until I'm home to get the fish to keep a closer eye on them.

I've got a week off work then anyway :D

Dazzler, have you decided yet?
