I'm pretty new to corys as well but I'm pretty sure the c aeneus (bronze possibly the albino) get to be 3+inches. I'm not sure about the others but I think about 3in as well. I have some c. arcuatus (skunk corys) that are only supposed to be about 2in and I know panda corys are quite a bit smaller as well but also a little harder to keep. Any kind of corys you get will be fun, they're entertaining buggers!!

ur tank is quite big and lowly stocked so a school of any cory would be fine..unless u want to reserve space for something else?

Thanks,
I'm still debating what stock to get,i would've liked pygmys, but has i am unable to get them i thought i would like another choice of small cory but don't know which ones!

I still thinking about getting gourami's,but obviously i wouldn't want to get too many cories and leave little room for owt else.

Hi Harlequins :)

It would almost be a shame not to get full sized corys for your lovely tank. The tiny species would almost get lost in there, but the larger ones would enjoy the open spaces and would be active and easy to watch. Just match the species to the temperature of your tank. C. sterbai are good if you keep it on the warm side, while C. paleatus (peppered) and C. aeneus (bronze or albino) like it best in the cooler temperatures. :D

Thanks inchworm,

Well i got 3 cory jullii today, will get some more when lfs get them in :)

£5 each is that a good price or did they rip me off?

Hi Harlequins :)

You made a fine choice! It's most likely the fish you bought is C. trilineatus, which the lfs usually call C. julii, but these are very popular and attractive corys. Lots of luck with them. :D

Thanks inchworm :good:

Just one question,2 are very active all over the place, but one seems to hide and stays on the bottom on its own,it does have a mad spurt across the tank every now and again,I think they're all fairly young,i notice the front barbels are alot shorter on this one compared to the other 2.

Is this solo cory anything to worry about?

Update on cory

Sadly he just died :rip: ,i just rang lfs about it,they want a sample of my tank water to test before they issue a replacement!
Good job i tested tank this morning
Ammonia 0,nitrite 0,nitrate 20(tap 10),ph 7.8

Hi Harlequins :)

I'm sorry to learn about your cory. Short barbels are not a good sign. It might indicate that the cory had a bacterial infection at some time or was stressed by having to live in an environment with a rough substrate. By all means, take it back and get a replacement. Look at it carefully for similar problems including torn or rough fins, white patches or a spot on the end of it's nose that looks like a scar, to rule out similar problems.

Good luck this time. :D

well after testing my water they gave me a replacement fish, she reckons it prob got stressed with transportation,i also got a further 3 to make up the numbers,
I can't see no apparent signs on them, they look ok,they're all very small, she reckons they are juvies, unable to sex just yet,3 of them are barely an inch long.
Everything crossed they make it,they have been acclimatising for the past hour and i've just put them in!

Hi Harlequins,

£5 for the cory is a lil high, I also live in Bristol and pay £2.50 @ lfs, it's a little shop in Hengrove :) owned and run by two brothers who love their fish and care for them extremely well.
