Which cory

Wow, I didn't know that was a trend... I bought one a while ago and he died mysteriously after a couple of weeks :dunno:

According to CFC, only Peppered and Bronze cories are captively bred (see general chit chat room). Both look great and won't be plucked out of a river somewhere.

I like the concolors and the greens. I think that panda's are the absolute worst cory ever.
from what i know panda cories are the most water sensitive cory
only a well established tank is suitable for them but sometimes that isnt the case

We have:

1 bronze
1 Luekomelas (I think)
1 Haraldschultzi
1 albino

LOVE them!

Had, but passed away:
1 trilineatus
another bronze

No matter the cory, they all get along great. Alot of fun to watch, especially their different personalities, actions etc...

It's worrying isn't it? Most of the pandas I've ever boguht (from different shops at different tiems) have died, and my friend's panda died the other day - it was fine in the morning but in the evening it was jsut sitting dead without a mark on it. :dunno: nd her water params were perfect. a similar thing happened to another member of this forum. i hope yours have better luck though...but if they don't...it's probably not your fault.
MY PANDA DIED TODAY :byebye: I'm really sad about it. Ammonia and Nitrite were both zero, I have no idea why he died.

What should I do? My other Panda is all alone now. I'm so worried he'll get lonely and waste away. I don't want to get more pandas only for them to die after a few weeks. Is it a good thing to get him some friends from another species of Cory or should I take him back to my LFS? :-(

In my experience, pandas are very sensitive little corys and I'm no longer recommending them for everyone.

I might be the one clutterydrawer was thinking of when she motioned that another forum member has lost a lot of them. I have a number of them, which I keep in a tank by themselves, for their own good. They spawn readily, but I have a hard time raising them. Recently, I've lost over 20 of them over night while they were in a tank with albino C. aeneus juveniles of their own size. None of the others were even sick. It seems that they are extremely prone to bacterial infections, which act very quickly. Too quickly, in fact, to enable their owners to take any action to cure them.

When selecting corys, think about the temperature of the water they will be living in. C. Aeneus s and C. paleatus are cool water corys, while C. sterbai needs warm water to thrive. Others have their own needs, but this is one of the most important considerations when it comes to corys. :D

I like spotted, aeneus, and sterbai. I have aeneus and spotted, and I'm getting the sterbai soon.

Edit: Actually, I'm thinking that the one I'm getting might be a julii. 3 dollars seemed too cheap for sterbai. It was marked as spotted, but it was DEFINATELY not.

Bacteria infection...Would it be beneficial to add a small dose of Melafix whenever I do a water change?

Rats, I'm sure glad I read this thread. For, I had planned on getting six panda cat fish, and now I'm afraid to, don't want them dieing on me for no reason  I ad seen pics of a neon orange catfish but can't seem to find any other information on that particular cory. Does anyone else know anything about the neon orange cory? The panda's won my heart when I seen them at the lfs for they are so tiny.

How little are they? My pandas are about 2cm when I buy them but remember they do get bigger....still pretty small for cories though! Maybe if you're looking for something small you could try one of the pygmy cories?

go for the pandas if you want they are adorable, but don't feel surprised or guilty if they die. and it's not by any means certain they'll die, it jsut seems a bit more likely than with other types of cory. :(

Cluttery,

How are your panda's doing? Do you have good success with them? I've "heard" that the panda's in the States are not as strong or healthy?? :dunno: I sure did like the little guys though...

I bought six a while ago. Of those, thre died mysteriously by which I mean they had symptoms of common diseases eg finrot, fungus, but with no obvious trigger - there were no water quality issues or anything. This happened a few months after I'd bought them, and they seemed to have settled in jsut fine. Then they died.

I recently got a few more to keep the last three company and they're still alive but who knows for how long. :(

My friend's panda cory died the other day, it showed no symptoms in the morning and was dead by evening without a mark on it

I'm beginning to think there is a secret trick to keeping pandas happy that no one knows. like a condition that's present in the wild that we don't replicate in tanks. *shrug*

Hi Cathydiane :)

The neon orange corys are a color variation of the C. aeneus. They are quite lovely. The stripe on their sides looks like a neon tube inside their skin.

Those, along with neon green, gold, and red, are seldom seen in the lfs. I bought my Goldlines on the internet, the only ones I ever bought online. They are healthy and happy, but seem to be growing much more slowly than I expected.

You might want to keep an eye on AquaBid for them. :D

Here's some more information about them:
