my local fish center has julii and metae corys for sale. i have a dedicated cory tank running ro water. which will be easiest to breed ? this is my first attempt. also any info on breeding these please! thank alot!

Hi bigstinka :)

Have you bred corys or other egg laying fish before? If not, I would recommend getting bronze or albino C. aeneus to begin with. They are easier to encourage to spawn than either of the others you mention and you can get used to dealing with the very tiny fry.

Why do you have RO water in your tank?

I was told Peppered Corys are one of the easiest Corys to breed...

I have 4 'Julii' Cory myself... or that's what they were sold as!... I've since found out on this forum that they are actually 'Trilineatus' Corys (they have a 'marbling' effect on there heads - whereas true 'Julii' have spots on there heads and are much harder to find)... quite a common mistake... the 'Trilineatus' are actually lovely fish though...

I agree with Inchworm. The C. Aeneus are the best to start with, at least they were for me. They lay lots of eggs.

The C. Metae are a great looking cory. However, I read on PlanetCatfish that they only lay 20-30 eggs per spawn. Its hard to get them to spawn and having a small amount of eggs will make it even more difficult. That would be great if you can get them to do it.

My C. trilineatus spawned for me, but I wasnt able to save the eggs. It was only like 6 eggs and I wasnt trying to get them to spawn, they just did it on their own.

Good Luck
