If the macrops were being bullied or if they were spawning, they could very well be hiding. They have been known to hide for extended periods of time and may only come out at night!!

If your calvus is a male and the comp. is a female they could be guarding a clutch of eggs. Is there a shell near the area the calvus is guarding??
