Where to get, what are these?

I've decided I'm going to start breeding when I move into my new house. Only problem is, I need to know where to get some supplies, and what some things are. ) What exactly is a gang valve, and where do I get one? Also, where do I get the sponge filter, and how powerful of a filter? Also, would a powerhead be acceptable for an air pump?

That's the question. Start with good quality stock (I know you will ) and it'll be a lot easier. Talk to the lfs, see if they'll buy or trade you. Start auctioning them on bidafish and/or someplace else(you know I won't give that other joint a plug! ). Talk to people on the forum.


A gang valve is just a plastic doohickey that you attach to your tubing to regulate the amount of bubbles that are let through to the filter, or airstone, or whatever you have attached to the tubing and pump. It also helps to avoid reverse syphoning. You will find them in any store with a decent fish supply section, most likely right next to the airstones and tubing. One thing thats nice to know is that you can get things like two or four way gang valves, which allows you to use one pump to power two or four airlines - very handy if you have more tanks then you do electrical outlets, like some people I know...

You can get those things at a fish store or at Wal-Mart (perhaps no sponge filters at Wal-Mart). You can also order them online.

I made my sponge filter. Will post pics and "how I did it" at some point - hopefully in the near future.

Ahh. See, I would breed as soon as I get into my new house, but the thing is, I want to end this spawn giving/selling off the stock and saving one male, one female fry.

Also, is that powerhead acceptable?
