Hi there,

I am planning my new tank 4x2x2 and I am running a sump, I am about to order the tank but I don't know what size and where to drill the holes. I can put the glass overflow in my self but don't know what size and height etc every thing needs to be.

Any help would be greatly appreciated especiall plumbing tips...

Regards Darren

By 'order' do you mean the tank is beig made or are you gong to be driling yourself? If made the company should know the optimal places to drill. If yourself someone here should be able to help! My rear holes have always been about 2" down (to top of hole) suppose it depends on the lid, what level your water will be at etc.

hole size wise i would imagine it depends on flow rate of your pump. I dont think your hole could be too big though so i personally would over do it a little. You can upgrade the piping, pump and sump one day then if you wanted.

Obviously im a DIYer though not a spare-no-expense-on-the-bester so maybe others know better! :)

The tank is being made but I dont know where I should but the holes, how I work out the water level all those things... overflow size etc

Are you talking about the main aquarium. If so Google Durso Standpipe from those hits everything should become a lot clearer. The hole or holes depending on how many your having (x2 is pretty normal from a safety aspect) ar usually drilled in the base of the tank. Return pump size/turnover is your next question after that.
Also consider Calfo Overflow methods, which involves drilling the holes usually in the back pane of the aquarium.
You will need to know the Bulkhead/Pipework sizes you wish to use, this will be determined by the size of your tank.
