Yes I think you do need an ammonia source, in my case it was fish poop and slightly over feeding..... for a few days only.....Unfortunately not a lot of LFS will do that, you're very lucky yours does.
The point still stands though, if you can get hold of old established filter media then using will help you cycle your tank a lot faster. You will still need an ammonia source though.
Oh I don't know, an ammonia test to see how much ammonia there is per unit volume in said pee, then dose accordingly ?And how would you measure the amount of ammonia in the urea to be able to establish the quantity of urea to dose?
Noooo, go to your lfs, get some filter medium put it in your filter, it will save you weeks and weeks of work, i did mine in 2 weeks.....
As ammonia levels in urea will change depending on your diet and therefore every time will have a different amount you would need to test every time.
