Just been thinking about this of late.

For those of you who have bought your Co2 bottles from online shops like ebay, AE etc, where or who do you get to fill your aquarium Co2 bottles??

Does any one have any problems finding Co2 suppliers that will fill aquarium bottles or any that you have??

Will BOC fill a bottle from a customer who is passing?

Do the local fire exstingiusher outlets fill your bottles even if they arnt Fire exstinguishers??

Will your local fish shop fill your bottle and give you your bottle back??

Im thinking of buying a second Co2 bottle, but im unsure where i can get consistant refills and keep getting my own bottle back.

The guy who i get mine filled sells Co2 bottles but i know i can get a Co2 system cheaper off the net, but will be uncomfitable asking hime to fill it. Hes a one man band, who just plays at the trade, and is only open 5pm-9pm. I may buy off him, I just dont know yet.

Thoughts??

one of my local (ish) stores fills my denerrle 500g bottle for me. £10 a time. they wont exchange bottles unless i have a JBL one to swop. although the bottles are identical the sticker on the front makes all the difference!

it's wildwoods in enfield so no use to you.

never tried any other options so cant comment.

Do you know Connah`s Quay Moody?

I haven`t needed to use him yet, but there is a guy that supplies a bottle for £10 deposit and quoted £6ish for 3kg of CO2, so it is basically £6 for 3kg.

Dave.

Yeah I know Connahs quay.

So you give him a tenner and you get a 3KG bottle for rent and it cost £6 to fill it for you? And it will take Aquarium style Co2 regs?

I have to confess i know very little about high pressure systems, so advice would be apreciated.
My pressurised system is from Alisons Aquarium ( cargerlly, i think thats how its spelt!!) And its a SERA model, so thats all the experiance i have. I get that filled for £5, for 500g!

It`s spelt Caergwle you heathen! (he says after giving it a quick spell check on Google).

Did you know Alisons has shut down? Just as I got started in the hobby.

The standard thread size is 3/4" on most aquatic CO2 systems, as are the kind of CO2 bottles used in pubs, welding etc. If the thread on your bottle has a diameter of 3/4" you should have no problem.

Dave.

By far the cheapest pressurised system works off a pub/welding cylinder, but only if you can find an independent supplier who doesn't charge retail for the cylinder. I've got 2x 12lb cylinders at 60quid each (refills then 35 a time). But they will last years.

Oh and hiding the dam things can be tricky, they are huge! :S

Ha ha, if i said Caergwle i think I would bring up a greeny  Sorry thats what saying Welsh does to me!!

I was a customer of Alan's for about two years, along with two of the the zoo's curators, my leaders, blah!
Hes moved to Canada now. Aparently, he was head hunted by a big Aqua manufacture, and is trying to push the planted tank side of the hobby out there!!! Hes owns a 20 odd acre farm too
If you know Alyn (?) Bank riding school, theres a guy called Steve, hes now selling tropica plants and all the SERA stuff. Not upto Alans standards, but he tries, and hes open 5pm to 9pm, he also sells RO water too. Its abit Heath Robinson there but hes all i have for a Co2 supplie.

Dave, will the guy be filling your new purchased ebay Co2 bottled featured in your pre-journal??
Curiouse if he will fill any bottle taken to him.

£10 rent and £6 to fill is a good deal!

 Sam,it must be like a Scud missile in the corner of your room? :good:

I took him my 500g JBL which he said he wouldn`t be able to fill, but that was because it would take 500g of the stuff just to prime the pipework of the source. The thread size was the same as his, so that was not an issue. At the end of the day, if you are using his bottles all you are doing is putting down a deposit and you will eventually get your £10 back.

I bought the bottle with my set up off eBay because it worked at about an extra tenner for a nice shiny CO2 bottle. Rented ones can be a bit battered, but I doubt that will matter a great deal if it is tucked away in a cabinet.

I think Sam`s huge bottle is compensating for something!

Definitely interested in getting to know this Steve guy. I could be in the market for some Tropica plants soon.

Anyway, back to shifting rocks again this weekend. Keep up the first class advice.

Dave

Indeed I am, that's also why I have two pub cylinders, lots to compensate for...

I went through my local yellow pages and phoned all the fire extinguishers places and eventually found one locally that would do it. £5 per bottle while I wait, so not bad
