I have just bought 2 today  My 180 litre tank is now cycled :hyper: :D :D , at the moment, they are hiding, and keep popping out for a nosey, then go hiding again, i have read up alot about these fish, and i know they are very shy, and like to hide alot.....

I have my 2 Angel fish in there, 2 Bolivian Rams, and 2 Pictus Catfish, and 4 Clown Loach

Does anyone else have any?

No, i thought about getting some though.

Here's the forum for them. You can click Here.
(I love adding a clickable word in a sentance, it makes me feel soooo special!)

I did have a couple a few years back got them to about 16 cm (they can get to 20cm) between them and my Distichodus Affinis they cleared all my plants. The silver dollars evan developed a tatse for plastic plants, they love cucumber and blanched lettuce leaf.

Lol   I think it would take them forever to chew through the plants i have, they are very big, and bushy, and have grown loads already.... If they do, i'll just by some more :D

Once they feel comfortable in your tank, they'll eat their way through your plants within 48 hours.
Please note that Silver Dollars can not live of flake and will not accept any meaty foods at all. You will Have to feed them lettuce, spinach and other green foods on a daily base.

Spirulina is a good staple for herbivores

Well thats fine with me  Another 2-3 wont hurt im sure....hehe

I yes, this is fine, i have lots of veg in my house, and i had some brocoli in there when i added them, and this morning i woke up, and its gone !!! I dont think my other fish were too bothered about it, so it must be the Silver Dollars
:D

I realise that they are vegetarian...This is perfectly fine with me :D

I did feed the rest of the fish in there some flakes last night, and 1 of the Silver Dollars was eating them too, will it be ok??

After settling in my silver dollars would eat flake and catfish pellets and in my experiance most will, they do still need plenty of vegie stuff but they will eventually take most foods put into the tank.

The problem isn't that the flake is bad for them, it's that it won't do them much good - they need veggies in the diet. Like was said, get a good quality spirulina flake for them.

we've had three silver dollars in our tank for quite a while now.. we'd like more but can't until the new tank is set up.. anyways ours eat almost everything we put in there.. even bloodworms and brine shrimp!! but they love peas, pleco wafers, and lettuce, they do eat the cucumber a little, but they are quite shy most of the time, and don't like to come by the front of the tank so much, which is where the cucumber usually is.

once the new tank is up and running (and once we've moved house) we are gonna get two or three more sd they are very cool!! :D

enjoy them!

Thanx...

I went to the supermarket today, got some lettuce, spinach etc... i bought the frozen Spinach, its in small cubes, so i just cut it in half, and put half in each tank, needless to say, its all been gobbled up :D and i did see some of the Silver Dollars eating it....

But they also have eaten some bloodworm, and some tropical flakes....
