Where Did Your Betta'S Names Come From?

So, did you just give your bettas a random name?
Is it related to their colour?
Did you name them after stars or constellations?

My boys are all named after wwe wrestlers (my guilty pleasure) in a round about way, except my first.
First came Disco (turquoise/green with red wash. RIP), turned out to be quite a big boy and so named because he shimmied everywhere like a Disco Diva. I still don't know if he was a SD or HM because he never flared but he sure had lots of finnage.
Kofi (pineapple/yellow VT) is named after Kofi Kingston.
Diesel (blue/black/white/clear marble) is named after Kevin Nash (aka Diesel) and because he looks kind like a diesel spill. I'm lost on his tail type. He was supposed to be a HM - which is certainly is not. He's almost Double tail but it doesn't go all the way to the caudle peduncle - more of a heart shape.
Nero (blue/red HM) is named after Jeff Hardy, as will be Imagi, Charisma and Enigma (all mustard gas HM) - Nero being his middle name, the Imag-i-nation is his home and he is/was known as the charismatic enigma!

My first girls were just named when I was being silly and so I carried it on with the rest.
First were Inky (deep inky blue and now adopted by LittleMonkey), Pinky (pink/purple cambodian) and Dinky (the biggest of the 3).
Next came Fizzy (cellophane), Wizzy (peachy cambodian) and Dizzy (kind of purply irridescent. RIP).
Then Pixie (blue/red HM) and Dixie (light blue/tan HM).
And coming soon will be Lily and Lolly (both mustard gas HM).

I like the theme Kia I particularly love the running theme on the girls! Lol sure some interesting stories will come up, let me see...

Calcifer (blue red CT)- after a talking flame from Howls Moving castle (as calci is a crown tail and looked flammable)
Reno & Rude (HMs red and cellophane)- got these at the same time one was excitable and one was grumpy like the two characters of this name out of Final Fantasy Advent Children
Enigma (white CT)- We went through the usual cloud, etc and enigma just happened
Tiny Tim (Blue iridescent feathertail)- he is tiny! and the chrimbo character popped up
Gambit (Blue hue, meant to be CT)- hmmmm he looked abit rough and he was my favourite character from the old cartoons
Ifrit- (Red VT) - rich colours, we always toy with gods, constellations and this seemed fitting
Onyx (black rosetail)- name he came christened with, but suits him to a T, he has silver dragon scaling also
Zippy aka Ziggy (blue iridescent feathertail) - christened and came with Zippy but partner got it mixed up and sometimes ziggy, what can I say?

Have to say looking we are a bit random but generally go for characters that suit their personalities, consider constellations, stars, gods, mythology, etc, we do also try to do unuusal but what fits them.

Mine have been all about their colour so far, apart from Tango (who only lived for 2 days ) who was named 'cos his tail reminded my of the dresses they wear for the tango on SCD.
I like the themed girls names-if I get a sorority, I think I'll do that.

my current boy is called shylo as he was VERY shy (he now happily hunts the fry in the breeding trap)

i have had chow, my other half's choice, chop n stix (2 characters off a game), all being named by kev

i usually name pets by charcter / origination

Most of mine come off the top of my head, but Bronson was named after the man considered to be the UK's most violent prisoner. He attacks my fingers and tried to leap out of the tank frequently in a bid to get to me. So he earned his name pretty quickly.

Well my past bettas names have been:
Pinky VT- because he was skin colour and with pinkish see through fins.
Nightlight VT - because he shone at night time with his reflective coat

Currently i hav e:
Shimmer PK male - named shimmer because he shimmers around the top of the tank. i like to think he is dancing/shimmering
Ramjet VT male - named after the my fav kids cartoon Roger Ramjet Hes tough, hess funny and hes invincible!!

Mine are:
Red & Purple Halfmoon named Stinkerooney - I had no choice. My 3 year old named him before we even had him. I call him Roo. (He continues to call him Stinkerooney, however. <lol> )

Pink and Gray Halfmoon who I named Buster because he has a really upturned mouth - very pug-type mouth and just sort of looked like a real tough guy - so Buster seemed to fit. (He's so NOT a tough guy it turns out. Someone flares at him and he quickly turns his back, then hides in a plant.

And lastly, my white and orangey/red Dalmation Veiltail. He's white with fins that are white with orangey/red spots and blotches. Except for one small part of his dorsal, which has a blue ink colored splotch on it (see my sig). I couldn't resist. Had to be named after the guy who created the inkblot tests: Rorschach. I call him Rory.

In the past, I've had a yellow crowntail named Junkyard Dog because he was SOOO aggressive, he'd come FLYING from wherever he was in the tank when I dared to put hands/fingers in and attack. Reminded me of those nutso junkyard dogs who do the same. Also had a white and pale yellow/gold Super Delta named Nugget (as in gold nugget) because he had cost me a fortune (he was a rescue that I knew had a bunch of things wrong with him and I couldn't leave him in the store to die there) and what with his coloring, it just kinda fit.

Those of you with any taste at all know Lou Reed as the frontman of the Velvet Underground. My female's name is Nico. I might add that I completed the set with Brian Cale, Mauree Tucker, and Sterling Morrison. Together they comprise the velvet Underground lineup during their (IMO) Best years.

Very interesting thread. I can see some of you use colours/games/tv shows to name yours by.
Mine are all quite random names,
Males
Shimmer(Rip) - Because he shimmered all around the tank and shone his colours when he swam.
Alphie - I wanted to go with a greek theme, alphie is the first letter in the greek alphabet.
Females
Angel - She just looked like a perfect angel when i got her because of her colours and lovely finnage.
Midnight - Because she had dark colours and sparks of bright colour to her tail.
Rose - She is a lovely red colour.
Topaz - She has a really lovely metallic blue to her scales and tail.
Saphire - She has alot of blue in her finnage and scaling.
Lucky - She was bought with pop eye and i didnt think she'd make it then she recovered so i named her lucky.
Bubbles - Shes loved playing in the airstone bubbles since bought!
Violet(Rip) - She had amazing bright purple in her tail and had a nice pink body.
Peach - She has a peachy/pink body and a peach tail to match.
Minnie - Shes always been so small since bought and is just a little minnie girl.
Ruby - Shes a nice red colour, like a shining ruby lol.
All the names of my bettas are quite random, but ive always named them names thats linked to them, also helps me remember better!
To everyone else, i really like your names and where they've came from! I cant beleive people who dont name there fish lol!

lol, well i havent named any of my community fish apart from Lunar.


Lunar (VT)- yellowish colour like the moon
Spikey (SD/DT Geno)-When i brought him his fins were shabby
Oscar (PK)- Eats like an Oscar and has the personality of one
Sparkle (SD?HM)- a shy but very glittery betta

Not very imaginative as some, but there ya go
