Where can i buy pure ammonia????

He laughed at me saying "you need to get rid of ammonia, not add it.......".

Probably he haven't heard about fishless cycling. I would probably have laught at him when trying to sell me some bottles B)

If the stuff you bought is only ammonia (nothing else), you can use it too. Ammonia level should be 5mg/l when cycling tank. It's a optimal value. When tank is cycled, then change lot of water to get rid of ammonia before putting any fishes into that tank.

Whilst were on the subject does anyone have any ideas what sort of strength ammonia to use in tanks, I can get HPLC grade from work but would imagine its way over strength for what we need it for.

You can use that ammonia but I suggest you get a pipette to dose the tank. It's best to build up gradually anyway - when I first did this I over-dosed the tank and it took forever to cycle!
