They are illegal in California. Sometimes you can get a permit through fish and game, but that's very difficult. You might want to consider silver dollars instead.

What state do you live in? They are legal in other states, but I know for a fact California has a ban on them, as well as freshwater stingrays.

I'm thinking of breeding a Piranha with a plec to make them more communal but im worried the offspring may chew through the tank glass

I would say that if u don't know where to get Piranhas where you are - you probably don't know enough about them

Stopped in yesterday to find out. They are Red Belly Pacu, which are very close to the pirahna. Funny you mention the stingray, cause he is supposed to get one in today. And yes, pirahnas are illegal in AZ too, unfortunately.
