i have tried to breed my bettas but had no success. I have kept the female in a jar in the breeding tank untill the male has made his bubble nest and she has the swollen belly and the vertical lines down her body, i have then added her but the male loses intrest after a day and his bubble nest collapses and nothing more happens. What am i doing wrong?? when should i add her and is there anything else i should be doing??? Please can anyone help as i would love to breed them. :-(

did you condition both fish seperately for 2 or 3 weeks before introducing them? If not, seperate them, condition them with quality frozen or live foods, then try again!

i have separated them and conditioned them before introducing, i also tried separating them after trying to breed them, then tryed again in a few days but the male died. perhaps i tried to hard!!! thanks for the replies though. ;) :D

When you pull them keep them carded and only tease them a little every day. Maybe 1-2 days before you spawn the pair, don't let them see each other at all. When you put your girl in the tank after that, they should go crazy flaring. If you can't get your male to spawn after that, you could try sparring him with another male for a short period. I've heard this always works because the fishes natural instinct is to fight for the female, then breed.

thanks for the information very useful will be trying it. hopefully i will be able to give everyone some good news within a couple of months. ill keep everyone updated :D :D
