Personally, I float the bag with the new fish in the tank water unopened for 20 minutes.
Then I open up the bag ... with one scooper I take some water out of the bag and discard it. With another scooper,
I put some water from my aquarium into the bag. I do this every 5 minutes or so for about an hour.
Now, at this point, I will still try to net the fish, by just spilling the water out of the bag, and over a bucket, with the fish net right there, waiting to catch the fish when it spills out. I find that this is usually a pretty easy way to net the fish, and hopefully less stressful for the fish, since I am not chasing it all around the bag forever.

However, if I were to instead just pour the fish directly into my aquarium .. though not great ... it wouldn't be so bad, because at this point, a good deal of the water in the bag with the fish is my aquarium water, and no longer the lfs water.

Just my way of doing things.

I used to do the float the bag in the tank method, but now I do it to where I put all fish in a big tub and slowly add tank water via my gravel vac line (I kink the line so it drops rather than pours). It may be okay for some, but I would NEVER add LFS water to my tank. The last batch of fish I got had the stinkiest water I've ever smelled. The tanks all "look" nice and clean, but they add fish 2x weekly, they could be bringing in any number of diseases. And, if my water chemistry is perfect, why would I want to add water that I don't know the chemistry for?

Any water from a lfs bag will be massively diluted and any parasitic nasties will be attached to the fish anyway and multiply from there on. But like i said, some people are more anal than others. :)

Yup thats me :good:

I am convinced that LFS water caused a Ich outbreak in my tank  with absolutely no evedence to prove it :/ .
