i got the betta bug in 4th grade. i went to petsmart and saw the pretty purple betta ,he was white purple and blue no red. my mom said he smiled so we grabed a betta hex and brought him home. we set the hex up using bottled water(like i do now) . he only was with me for a week,i came home from school one day and he was laying on the side w/ his tail flat and he was like sitting up the poor guy was dead,i only had him for a week . his name was Zack the one week wonder. he reminded me alot of Flame he was very werid and loved to flare.so then i waited a few months . then i went to the store in the mall(where i got stary and mister peaches) i saw a beautiful red half moon/delta /large pretty veil(cant remember i have pics of him somewhere) sitting in this bowl staring at me and it was almost like love i begged my mom to get him so! we got a dual betta hex w/o the devider and set him up at home. i loved him alot he was a sweetie he lived for a year. near the end i think he got a slime coat infection (he was shedding) so one day in Febuary of 2002 my mom told me aaron was gone to heaven and she burried him in he back yard :-( . so then later that year my mom came in the door saying "mom(my grandma) your going to think im crazy" so then i looked over and she had a little green red and blue guy who we put in a one gallon bowl,he was Gus ,he flared at me so i didnt like him much then. it took me 2 years to love him . in 2004 we decided to get a little girly friend for him (seperate bowl) so we got a cute little black melano girl from walmart (i swear she was a melano) she had golden eyes.then i went to this fish store near our home and 2 days after we got AmyI i saw a cute little baby fish i was told by the owner she was 3 months old. she was named Ani since her size (i knew a girl named ani who was little). it proved i was addicted and the rest was history.

Got my first betta when I was 19 in college and my roomies and I decided to go together and get an aquarium. We bought a ten gallon tank and shoved about 20 fish into it, not knowing any better at the time. The only one I bought was Siam. He was a typical run of the mill blue veiltail, but I thought he was the most beautiful fish that ever lived. When the school year ended, I took him home with me for the summer and he lived at my house for the next 3 years until he died of old age. A few years later I decided to set up my own aquarium and I got Shadow then. He was a black veiltail with just a hint of blue in his fins. I kept him in my community tank for about 2 1/2 years before he died. Then I got another betta very much like him and named him Shadow as well. Not long after that my mother became very ill with cancer and I moved in with her to help my Dad. I gave the tank to a friend to keep for me since I didn't have anywhere for it at my parents and besides I didn't want anything to take away from my caring for my mother. Anyway, the friends son and one of his buddies were roughhousing near the tank and knocked it over and busted it. The friend was able to save a few of my fish, but Shadow had been decapitated by broken glass. It was awful to hear about, but at least I didn't see him that way. I didn't get another aquarium for many years, but when the hubby and I decided to get one as our Christmas present to each other last year, I was ready. Jericho (RIP) became my first betta in years. Then came Batista, Hunter, Booker, Fozzy (RIP) and last but not least Vince.

I got my first boy Athos, a lovely, regal dark blue/red VT, from my sister for Christmas. I'd wanted a betta for some time, but with three dogs to care for I'd never had the nerve to go out and get one, so she helped me along, lol!

Athos was a fiesty little guy and lasted six months before he somehow lost interest in swimming up to get his air. One day he was dark and healthy, flaring at the plant in his tank (he and the plant had a love-hate relationship; I loved to watch him try to fight it) and the next he was pale and weak at the bottom of the tank. I nursed him for three days before he finally slipped away but by then I'd been bitten. Elana and Simeon were next, and I've never looked back :p

I started fish keeping when I think i was 5-6 and got a tank because I did well in a test or something and then 7yrs later iam still fishkeeping trying to not let dads wallet go empty then I saw the betta's   and then opps no more money in dads wallet lol
