i got a male and female fry (one month old) and the male is already chasing the female....i dont want them to breed....when are they capable of breeding?

Your frys are 1 month old, or you got them 1 month ago?

Usually, around 7-8 months old, they become sexually mature. Physically, they will be around 1.5 - 2.0 inches inches or so... First few spawns will be rather small...

Also, even if they do breed, the chances is that most frys won't survive, unless if you have tonnes of hiding spots for frys.

accually they are redy to go a little bit sooner than that, id say 3 months they can breed but it is best to wait till their 5 months as to prevent the mother from dieing during the process -_-

Just put in the male and female and before you know it ,they can breed.it will take 3 months for the female to mature.I think your male is already mature.Heard that in some strains of guppies ,when you leave the female virgin for more than 3 months , they will be immpossible to be pregnent. Not sure if the same for guppies, but you can play safe and just put the pair together. And try to make females outnumber males by 2 to 1 ,especially is you haev a small population

Wow your guppies breed real quick! When I observe my platy tank, the smallest one interested in female are at tad over 1 inch, probably around 1.25 inches. Most of my under 1.5 inch females have not started to hold yet...

Ugh I WISH I had that problem ... my tank doesn't really have good hiding places (no java moss or anything), and I have 5 danios in the tank along with 2 adult platys ... and I'm STILL overrun with fry! (Anyone want some LOL?)

(Edited for typos)

Now that is an interesting problem!

Before seting up that 15g I have right now, I've never had more than 1 surviving fry per spawn...

males mature at 4-6 weeks old, females can also get pregnant from about 6 weeks on. 10-26 weeks, is when the best breeding capsayty is reached.

Thats for guppies but not shore about plattys. But I would seperate them to be on the safe side. Fish have no conception with right and wrong and will happy breed bother and sister.
