lol whatever you say :good:

yes whatever we say ;)

I dont know everything obviously, but thats why there is all sections on here with people who more experienced in that section, so offlinks are not needed, offlinks are for lazy ass people who cba to reply

It is always advised not to add a plec of any kind to a newly cycled tank, a lot of plecs eat algea and tiny organisms that live beneath the algea on wood/ rocks etc (sorry, its late and i cant remember the name lol).
you dont get any of this growth in a new tank, which is why it is advised to wait.
you'd probably be fine by just chucking one in a new tank but personally, i have always followed this advice as it is better for the plecs

if u feed them on other foods it shouldnt matter how much alge is in the tank some plecs dont even eat algae so that theory sort of goes out the window :p

the original poster asked a question about times of adding plecs, both Darkstar and i have offered an explanation as to why it is advised to wait, its entirely up to them if they choose to follow that advice or not.
yes you can feed plecs other foods, and no, not all plecs feed on the algea, but a very beneficial food to many grazing plecs/ fish is the aufwuchs (ha, i remembered lol) that will only be found in an established tank. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aufwuchs

It is best to leave a tank to become established but as everyone else says, you could put one in now, saying that, you COULD keep a 10" common in a 3 foot tank, but its not the best. :p

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all your replys, I didnt realise this thread was still going I never got notified about the replys so appologies..

I had RockNYourWorld2006 from the forum visit us and cast his eye over our setups and as it happend he had BN's he had bred hiself and suggested as others did that they would be fine given I feed them also..So I have added 2 from chris into my main tank that has lots of old bogwood and Ive got some botto m dwelling suppliments too.

I was told years ago by a LFS keeper not to do this for the reasons some have stated but figured Id ask to see if this was good info id recalled or had thinking changed..

Seems its a coin toss on this one with differing opinions.

Thank you once again to all.. :good:

Just to add

There are plenty of veg and fruit that the bn will eat, if they are common bn then they aren't fussy when it comes to food and will try pretty much everything. Courgette and cucumber are good as part of the diet but aren't very nutritional. Add more veg/fruit to the list to ensure they are getting enough vitamins etc.

heres a few

deshelled peas
capsicum
mushroom
spinach
green beans
sweet potato
butternut squash
melon
grapes-not the skin

HTH :good:

Thank you,

I have a chunk of cucumber in there now with them if the Severum lets anyone near it

How often do you add veg like this to your tank?

Thanks again
