Hi Guys,

Are there any time requirments on adding a bristlenose to a tank thats been newly cycled or will they get on OK?

I seem to recall someone once saying the tank should be at least 6 months old b4 you add these?

Im looking for a janitor fish for my 3 severums and 2 keyholes and thought a BN would work?

Thanks for any thoughts.

Ifd your tank is cycled and your readings are correct, you can add fish to the tank.

It is certainly preferable to wait that period of time with most plecs imo. If it's an adult bn that you're intending to buy then it'll stand a better change of survival than a young one.

Thanks Guys,

The tank in question is cycled but only by a few weeks or so and is running fine...

I was just wondering what cats/plecs? to add as this tank and when would be a good time.

There are not many fish in the tank so im keeping it quite clean myself but wanted a plec and the kids love the look of BN's

Probably best to wait a few months :good:

Thanks again..

I completely disagree with the above post, if your tank is cycled and running well and your readings are fine, why not add any plecs? they will be fine (better off in your tank than a lfs imo)

Yep you should be fine with adding a Bristlenose now! How big is the tank you could maybe get a pair!

Hi, Well Im not to sure m8ty hence my post asking, :hyper:

Do plecs not need a build up of gunge in the substrate and alge etc to get all their needed nutrition etc?

I was looking on Tri Mars site at some of the plecs they have in and there are some awsome looking plecs but as i mentioned when i first took up fishkeeping someone had said this to me about needing to have an older set up.

Ive been googling plecs to see what comes up but im mostly finding general descriptions..

Thanks again

All depends on what pleco you are after! Some require wood while other are more meatier needs and some require some algae

I was on about darkstars post lol not yours..

You will be fine adding them now.

Feed them on, corgette, cucumber, pellets, protien foods, flake, algae wafers, boiled potatoes, lettuce, bloodworm once a week..

This will be a good diet for them.
Also adding some bogwood fro them to chew on will help thier digestive system.

Thanks guys,

This tank has 3 large lumps of bogwood but I dont have any real plants in there as yet I will try and get some in soon.

We liked the BN's but also likes some of the flashy looking plecs we saw like the stripped and spotted lads dont recall all the latin names soz..

I think going by the Tri Mar site i have the option of getting an adult and I guess this would still be the better option?

Thanks again

check out planet catfish or plecofanatics, they have plenty of info on plecs requirements including diet, water parameters and size

There is plenty of good info on this forum, why do you keep redirecting people to another place?
