Well I've had these platties for 3 months I guess, I have 4 females and 2 males, well 1 female has been having problems swimming for the past few days, she can't swim normally, she's always swimming up or down, and doing I guess the best word is somersault, her stomach is a little bloated but not much, everything else looks fine.

Check your water stats and feed some shelled peas.

My first suggestion is that you make sure she doesn't have any signs of ich or any other major problems on her body. Are her fins clamped?

If her fins aren't clamped and she does this crazy swimming she might have a swim bladder problem. The best way to solve that is feed her cooked peas. Cook them, shell them by squeezing them between your fingers and feed her the mushed pea. This will fix swim bladder, and constipation if she has that too. Make sure to look at her close and look for any abnormal things like spots on her body or anything like that.

Cooked peas do nothing for swim bladder infection. Peas are for constipation.

It does sound like a swim bladder infection though. Pimafix works on bacterial and fungus infections. It will stain your tank silicon sealant on your tank though. Separate out the sick fish and treat with the medication. Good luck. Keep us updated.

Actually Pea's do cure swim bladder here's a link to prove it. It does refer to Betta's but if you do a Google search everyone agree's that pea's cure Swim Bladder Disorder.

Swim Bladder

Also, Pimafix is only for fungus infections according to API who makes the product. Melafix is for bacterial infections. I have used Pimafix myself and have not had a problem with it staining my silcon in my tank. It is good however to have a hospital tank.

I'll try both to help her, she has no other visible things wrong with her, her fins aren't clamped, everything is normal except her swimming and slight bloat.

Well I would say that she is definatly having swim bladder problems and the bloating might be that she is pregnant or she might be constipated. Well let us know if she gets better or if you have any other problems.
