What's Wrong With My Lights?

I went away on holiday for a week, decided to put my lights on timer (standard Juwel 125L tank lights). When I got back they didn't work. my freezer also defrosted (grrr) but that was coz the switch under the stairs had tripped.

But what I want to know is wether the whole unit is broken or wether if I replace the tubes it will work (don't want to go buy tubes then find out it's the unit). Not sure but I think we had a power surge. And if the unit is broken is it covered in the guarantee do you think?

have you takin it out of the timer and pluged it directly into the socket?

as if the power goes out the time clock will also be out time wise.


if it still dont work check the fuse in the plug as it could of blown

i take it your lights dont work, after you reset the trip switch.

if so did you, unplug the timer, and what type was it.

when you switch the light on does the starter light up?

what i would do:

reset trip, and check everything else is working.

check the fuse in the light plug.

check to see if the starter lights up.

as for the timer, which may well be the problem:

plug in a small light, set the timer and see what happens.

if after all this the lights still don't work, then get in tough with the vendor. however if the timer has caused the problem, which is quite likely, you will have to claim from the timer maker not juwel! and they tend to exclude anything fitted to the timer from cover.
