On Friday, I bought 5 silver-tipped tetras and got some free danios, as you may have read in a previous post! :) Yesterday, I noticed one of the tetras was hanging around at the back of the tank, not eating, and not being very sociable and snapping at any fish that swam near him! :/ Well, later that day, I saw that he kept flipping upside down as he was swimming. Then he would straighten up, swim normally for a few seconds then flip upside down and float there. What was wrong with him? I checked for signs of whitespot ( :*) First thing that came into my head) but it wasn't.
I found him dead later. I was just about to fish him out when my golden gourami swam up, grabbed his head in his mouth, shook him, and ripped his eyeball off. Then he swam off, munching it.

:-( I take it that the gourami isn't a picky eater...

It might have been swimbladder, if he was having difficulty swimming...

Sorry you lost him. :rip:, little silver-tip.

Thanks for replying SPLiSH! :)
How can you cure swimbladder? And do you know how fish get it in the first place?

EDIT:Wait - I know how to cure swimbladder! :*)

sounds like swimmbladder to me to. it is not contageous, but if your fish get it, give them a mild salt bath, and feed them frozen or live foods. this should solve the problem.

That's okay. :)

To be honest, I don't know whether it's a bacterial thing or if it's caused by gulping in lots of air. I know that's what causes it in goldfish... can anyone clear this up for me? :*)

Its not caused by gulping air. It can be caused by constipation/overfeeding, bad water quality, bacteria or viral infection.

A few varieties of goldfish are more prone to this problem.
