Hi, ive recently added 2 plattys to my new aquarium I correctly cycled the tank, tested the water and everything is great! One platty is happy as larry (female) and the other (male) seems to be "ill"

The female keeps nipping him!!

Can you guys see anything wrong with him?? Hes been like this since I got him under a week ago, could I take him back ??

What should I do ?

The fish you have probably bought hasn't got used to the water and needs to get adjusted. Anyways females are mostly always more aggresive when you get them and the male ecxepts the nips

Uhm. The ratio for platy's (And most livebearers I think) need a male to female ratio of 3 females to 1 male. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

yup the ratio is 3 females to 1 male, but if u have 1 female the male shud be buggin her (for breeding)! although, i have just aquaried 4 mollies of the correct ratio. they have all recently give birth and now one of my females gets slightly nippy when the males around! shes not being agressive to the point of killing. i think its either due to dominance, or shes is slightly stressed after birth. mine have begun to calm down. mabey urs is showing dominance or is just settling.

this is what happened to mine unfortunatly it was dropsy fingers crossed that not your problem
it could also be the tempreture maybe the water is a little warm for him
