will this be ok in my community tank with all my other fish etc(see sig)??
it seems ok, swimming around alot, its sooo cute!
how big do they get? will i have to buy it a new home when it gets bigger or will it be ok to stay in this tank??? how long will it take to grow?

Im sure the breeder in my lfs said it was a gold queen or something like that??

cheers x x

they are a great commutity fish - It'll get to about 5"

sounds like you need to ignore your local shop :/

Yep, looks like a common bristlenose to me too. Sounds like your fish shop may have tried to sell it as something else? Should've only cost you about £2 at that size :good:

hey thanks for reply's :good:

i dont really mind what species it is, its just soooo cute whizzing round my tank!!

my dad says that my lfs said it was a very young queen gold nugget ?????? could it be one of these or is it definatly a common bristle nose?

thanks again :good:

p.s it cost me £4.

You can get "Gold Nugget" plecs (L081, L018 and another L number I can't remember offhand come under this common name). Never heard of a "Queen Gold Nugget" - sounds like they're making up more enticing names for a common bristlenose. Yours doesn't look like any of the Gold Nuggets I've seen, and you wouldn't be able to buy a Gold Nugget, even at that size, for £4 (it'd be at least £15-£20). For the size you have, £4 is a bit excessive but might be down to where you live as it's not hugely so.

Hope that helps! :good:

hi ok cool, thanks for replies. my dad rang the lfs where we got this little cutie from to check what species it is and he's certain its a golden nugget plec baby, he bred them. He did say he would give it to me cheaper than normal because i go there quite often, as he's really helpful and has good quality fish. I do remember him saying that when its full grown it would cost around £50+ and to return it if it got to big for my tank.

Maybe its the pic i posted its not v.good quality, i'll try and get some better ones soon and i agree it does look like a common bristle nose in the pic.

thanks again for all your help, really appreciate it and as i said before its so cute i dont mind what it is really!!

thanks again!

Anyone got any info on these plecs??
cheers x x x

I think it'll be easier to advise you with a better pic, as that one really doesn't look like a Gold Nugget of any kind, and GNs and bristlenoses have different care requirements :)

your lfs is not that good with names... even if you get a better pic - I think it will just confirm that it is a bristlenose...

Golden Nuggets can get to 18" (or 8" if its the smaller species) but as far as I'm aware they are not easily bred...

Bristle noses however are easy ;)
