Theres something which has taken root on my bogwood. Its small and looks like very fine grass, its slow growing. Its quite nice looking really but just wondered what it is?

Hi,

Can you get a photo of it, it would really help in identifying.

get an amano shrimp...i bought two and over the weekend the have cleaned ever bit of that of my bogwood...not a pick ok it to be seen! fun things to watch as well...they have 2 or 3 legs lifting food and firing it into their mouths

Not black brush algae. Take a look at my algae photos at http://www.theplantedtank.co.uk/algae.htm and look at Cladophora. There is a good closeup photo of it. Let us know if this is it.

It could be that but the stuff on my bogwood is not knotted. It sticks up and looks like hair. I dont fancy touching it to be honest. Its probably because i dont have co2 or fertilister in the substrate? I have co2 and tetra cmplete substrate in the larger tank im currently cycling so when i transfer the bogwood over ill try to get it off.

I dont fancy getting shrimps to be honest as ill have to replace all my meds. Will ottos or a Bristlenosed plec do the job of eating it?

when i changed from diy to pressurised it grew...possibly because it was unstable for that time. But now the pressurised co2 has stabilised it doesn't seem to be growing as much. the shrimp cleaned up what grew and now i just feed them on algae wafers, etc.

What meds you using? Ye ottos should do the trick..i ahve them as well in the tank and they are good enough at the job. Bit slower mind you lol

Currently uing sterazin for intestinal worms then need to use protozin for possible whitespot

not good. clean the tank out first with the meds and let it grow on the bogwood...then get the ottos or shrimp after the med is finished as they will have a feast on all the algae :D

I have to transfer the bogwood, plants and fish into my larger 125L tank once its cycled and once they have all been treated. Then i can get ottos or a Bristlenose or even Queen Arabesque :D Im hoping the co2 and ferts in my new tank may help the problem :S
