Whats The Coolest Freshwater Shark?

Looks wise...a bala shark is most shark like, though rtb's are always my firm favourites

Nice to see wobbegongs get a mention here, these, port jacksons, angel shark and other members of the banjo group are amazing species of shark often over looked. Many larger tanks and public aquariums have great joy with these due to their lazy bottom dwelling lifestyles as ambush predators.

reeally even though they are of the cyprynid family how strange
why so strange? Tigers are protected, and illegal to keep, without licence in the UK. but you can keep a moggie (same family), with no restriction at all. same with Crayfish, i can keep Redclaw, but not a yabbie.

there are some freshwater/brackish sharks. mostly from the same family (Glyphis) all get too big for a home aquarium(100cm min), plus are rare.

I think Glyphis glyphis is a stunning freshwater true shark, they can breed in freshwater or marine....where as bull sharks can only breed in marine but travel through fresh and salt

It just doesn't seem like the type of fish to warrent a license thats all mate
Why does it need one here anyway just out of intrest

It can (thereoretically) survive in the waterways. There's a massive list of banned species, but most of them are pretty boring so don't really get mentioned.

Glyphis glyphis

thats a shark there if i ever saw one!!!!

i cant keep that in an aquarium tho can i.... :p

I like the Colombian Shark Catfish. It is brackish later in life, though. I do like Iridescent Sharks as well, it is a shame they are so common in the trade yet so few can properly house them.

ah fair enough :good:

ive got a channel cat that is quite simular to the aurias seemani ,columbian shark catfish and that swims quite gracefull (sometimes lol) and it uses its whole body to move too abit like a shark does

Opps my bad, thought the thread was just qusetioning whats the coolest, not whats the best to own.....deffo cannot keep Glyphis glyphis, these guy's are now exstemely rare to find and consiquently protected specie's...but stunning all the same, the ability to reproduce in total freshwater proves that they can be classed as fresh, although usually there found in brakish conditions usually at the mouth of the rivers into ocean's...but again found in total freshwater aswell, much like the bull shark which can be found 100 of miles inland but these guys have to return to the ocean to reproduce.......

Its got to be the red tailed shark for me. Mine is so cool.
