I've got them in my tank as well......might need to view the picture side-by-side to confirm though.

Here's just a couple of mine taken a few minutes ago. They all look basically the same color. No red bellies.

They were rescued from a very bad tank. There are probably half a dozen just like them. But other than that, they are healthy.

Red spots like that are most likely to be the result of Septicemia. Once they appear, you could treat for bacterial infection, but it's probably too late to do them much good.

The thing to do now it give your tank a good water change and bottom cleaning to discourage the spread of the disease to other fish.

Not at all. In fact, I'm surprised at how capable they are. And as you can see from the photo, they certainly aren't undernourished! They love the Hikari sinking wafers.

Ok, I think it may of had to do with Nitrates and Nitrites. Because the day after I did a 45g water change one more died and no others have died since. :X Oh and this is the only catfish who has the red on its belly. My heater is fine, I have checked out. Not anything wrong with it that I can tell!

That's amazing. I had a cory cat ages ago that cut one of his barbels on something in the tank (not sure what exactly but that's irrelevant). He got an infection and it ate away at his barbels until he had nothing left, a lot like yours. I managed to stem the infection before it spread to the rest of his body but he died of malnutrition (rather than under nutrition). If the food dropped in front of him he'd it it, and eat A LOT but he simply failed to find food without the use of his barbels :(

I'm glad yours are doing so well!:good:

Its more than likely a bacteria infection...

I just occurred to me after looking at the photo a couple of times that it looks like a kind of burn on the belly. What condition is your heater in? Unreliable heaters is why I'm switching all my heaters to inline versions. I've had several of the in-tank varieties fail in one way or another, including one that exploded, so no more!

@Zoddy ... I have a dozen albinos and none have a belly that red.

Can I ask you what an 'in line' heater is?

It's a heater that you hook up to your outlet line so it warms the water on its way to the tank. No chance of burning or exploding. Hydor is the brand I use.

The Hydor in-line is the best piece of fish equipment, that I have bought :good:
