Jus a question. Im looking to seroiusly make my JD & GT grow a bit faster! I keep them in a 80 gal tank, had them since they were about 1/2 inch they are now about 3 inch after a year or so. I have been feeding them freeze dried tubifex, frozen bloodworm & flakes. What is good for helping them to grow?

my lfs swears on beef heart, they claim it is steroids for fish. I just started using it about 2 months ago, only abot once or twice a week, ive heard it can cause digestive problems, I also feed cichlid flakes and pellets, frozen brine shrimp and bloodworm, I feed three to four times a day and do 20% water changes per week

ok guys! Many thanks for all your help! I will try some of those ideas :hey:

Feed them 3 - 4 times a day with.

High Protein flower horn pellets (55% up protein low ash) and Blood worms or meal worms.

Blood worms, meal worms, shrimp(this will enhance their colors + growth too) - 7am

Pellets - 11 am

Blood worms - 3pm

Pellets again - 7pm

Don't feed them with Beef this will cloud the water fast and can cause Hexamita on your fish.

Raise the temp to 86 -90 deg F

Water 32% water change every other day.

Nice filter and keep the Beneficial Bacterias alive.

I hope this helps :D

Thanks man, sounds good :) Does anyone know how long it would take a JD or Green T to grow fully anyway? :fish:

My uncle's JD hit 11 inches at 5 years. the biggest GT ive seen was aprox. 9 inches

If you don't mind the expense, you can try live food, it always works for me when I want them growing.
Yeah thanks. Just bought some live meal worms today, they seem to be going down a treat Ordered in some live crickets too... Good idea?

Thanks man, im jus gonna have to feed them well & wait then!

no prob. With very frequent water cchanges and a high protien diet, Ive got a JD to touch .75 inch this past month!

As for the green terror, when males hit a certain size, they grow humps.

good luck. I had a GT once but he couldnt keep up with the crowd. I hope they arent both males because one: you can get cool offspring :) two: 2 males fight a lot by liplocking and ripping scales, tearing fins etc.
